OK let me think about this. Gwar, ummm no I don't think so. Kiss, that might actually be the thing that makes me quit going to Bonnaroo. I hate Kiss. They are a bunch of old, greedy, no-talent bungholes.

i saw gwar last year awesome fun entertaining show the musics not the best but you'll have a fun time none the less. that being said doubt it would happen
Look up Lordi. Similar idea, but MUCH better music, and really nice guys (I got to hang out with them on their 1st US tour).
I seen them at the free ozzfest last year and did nothing but laugh at them, they did have great Pyro but i just thought their stage presence was lame followed by their music
Yea, they did not fit in there at ALL. Medium/Hard Rock does not mix with heavy metal. You really have to see them at a club show, they'll blow you away.
Also... it's supposed to be funny AND rock, so they got you halfway!

I keep seeing posts that say that Gwar sucks. You don't have to like their music but it definitely doesn't suck. Those guys (GWAR) are tight as hell and can play metal or thrash or whatever you want to call it like nobodys business. They are brutal......in a good way. Bonnroo was not created to be the Rainbow Gathering.....it is meant to give a little something to everyone.

having seen GWAR 15+ times, I wouldn't consider my view to be the same as the average 'roo-goer. However, I believe that anybody who has seen them live wonders what it would be like to see them live with the assistance of party favors. My initial thought is that it might scare the hippies, but if Metallica and Mastodon haven't done that already it probably won't happen. To the people that say GWAR sucks musically, I beg to differ. You don't have a 20+ year career by being a novelty act. The music may not be your cup of tea, but you have to respect a guitarist that can still solo while being eaten by a dinosaur and sprayed in the face by a decapitated head.
With GWAR you either "get it" or you don't. I personally think they would make a good addition to something like the Other Tent.
Also, if he were still alive, I would also include Wesley Willis into the Bonnaroo fold.
there are some hilariously bad suggestions on this board for future roo artists and both of these go right near the top. a couple of gimmick bands plain and simple. KC, you say "You don't have a 20+ year career by being a novelty act." about GWAR, but clearly this is not the case. KISS are going on 30 years now, and new kids on the block are back, so there are two examples right there.
under absolutely no circumstances. either of them. ever.
I stand by my comment. GWAR may not be your cup of tea (or semen or whatever they happen to be spewing) but thats no reason to call them "hilariously bad."

I like to think of them as hilariously amazing. Still one of my fondest memories of a show.
Throwdown would be funny just to see straight-edge kids at Bonnaroo.
Side note: I thought it was funny in '07 when was camped next to a group of Tool fans who took it upon themselves to wear all black during the 100°+ heat. Black jeans, black shirt, black leather vest even. Not bashing metalheads as thats what I grew up on, just thought it was humorous that these kids couldn't break the metal "code" of wearing all black.
Not necessarly for those bands, but a metal "Something Else" next year would be fantastic. I'm sure I'd spend a lot of time there. Thats probably the only way a band like Opeth would get their rightly deserved late-night set.
And yeah, Throwdown/SxE kids at Bonnaroo would be entertaining.

Wow a Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza suggestion. These guys are from Murfreesboro and am friends with these guys but I have never thought that they would be suggested for bonnaroo. I have seen them many times but I do not see them being a roo band. They are by all means a very hardcore band that could scare a few hippies....lol. I also really didnt know that too many people have heard of them....I guess they are starting to get national attention now.
Bands I think that would fit roo are: Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Opeth, KMFDM, Fear Factory, Type O Negative, Meshuggah, In Flames, Chimaira, Soilwork, and why not Slipknot

Im from waaaaay up north so i guess they are getting some good recognition. they do have 1,386,202 myspace views. I think Ministry would be cool there and slipknot is too big to be at bonnaroo, theyd cost to much so therefore theyd be close to a headliner and their fans are a little extreme. A metel "something else" would really be the way to go, i heard there were only like 10-50 people at a time in there this year, i think with a metel one they could sell a lot more spots inside there. To anyone - check out American head charge if you like any of this music listed, theyre from minneapolis and their first cd was produced by Rick Rubin. their cds are called War of Art and The Feeding

Why keep metal away? I promise you most of the bands that play bonnaroo are influenced some way by what metal has brought to the table. This is a music festival for all likes of music and metal is a very influential one. I dont even like using the word metal because that is too broad of a term. Tool was not metal and never was metal and from what I have heard that was one of the best headliners of roos past.
Me personally I want my bluegrass, alternative, heavy, progressive, hip-hop (there is a difference between this and c-rap), electronica, metal, jam, whatever you call Sigur Ros (still have never gotten a clear answer on what these guys are classified but that is cool), and whatever else is out there at my roo. I love me my diverse music and I want it all

I think it's funny that people so anti-GWAR-at-Roo. I understand why they don't want them there, but hell, didn't we all say the same thing about Metallica last year? They didn't kill Bonnaroo. GWAR wouldn't even have anywhere near a headlining spot, either, so they'd be even easier to avoid than Metallica.
Besides, people are saying their music sucks, but it's so over the top, it's obviously not meant to be taken seriously. They're just a bunch of film school students that happened to like thrash.
In fact, if you look at Wikipedia, the first line on their entry refers to them as satirical. It's not supposed to be good.
Edit: And you guys are talking about a festival that booked OAR. And Kanye West. Think about that.

Let's go back to the original lineup, and have everyone in the same time slots again and again every year. While we're at it, let's close the extra exits off of 24 so we have to sit in traffic for 16 hours again. Only bands that hippies like can play. They should have learned their lesson with Kanye West that you shouldn't take any chances on booking acts that hippies might not like. The only change should be that free patchouli should be given out at the gate.
Fuck yes it would be awesome if GWAR played! Second on the Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, more Mastodon, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (I was also surprised to see someone from Wisconsin suggest them), Spoonfed Tribe, and Meshuggah.
