That's called lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming kicks @ss, you can literally do whatever you want to do in your dream and you are fully aware of it...it's the weirdest thing ever, but one of the coolest things too.
Ever see the movie, "Waking Life". It's got a lot about that concept, and it's very well done.
i didnt realize it had a name. i just thought i was master of my dreams. hehe. ;D whats really cool about it is that in addition to controling my own actions, im able to slightly change the situation im in, in my dream. it seems very strange, but i guess it makes sense cuz afterall, i AM the one dreaming it up.
I had a dream last week that I forgot a ton of crap and had to keep leaving to go to the store to get a tent, a sleeping bag, and even socks.... It was really stressful until I looked up at the sky and it was like this weird red and the white stripes were playing... from then on it was a great dream.
I had a dream a few nights ago that I kept forgetting things too... I must have gone back from the roo to my house (which was only apparently an hour away) six or seven times before I woke up.I was so pissed.

same here... though sometimes I have to do something odd to get the scene to change, and not just change what I am doing. Like spin in a circle... i dont know... As long as it works.
i find lucid dreams to be quite interesting. its like having psychadelic dreams and the tryptamine responsible for the experience is your own mind rather than substance. although our brain does secrete the strongest known hallucinogen on earth.... maybe it does during the lucidity......

dun dun duh!
psychadelic dreams... where its our brain just straight up halloucinating... By secreting its own halucinogen...
If we could harness that crap, we could make millions!

oops.
anyway.
some people have bad dreams. I had one about my ex the other nite. but mostly i have ok dreams.
i periodically have sleep paralysis. when it has happened i would wake up and be concious of my identity but my body would be completely unresponsive/sleeping. i would frantically try and figure out what was wrong, speculating i was dead and a number of other things. sometimes i will be able to raise an arm by focusing, but this wakes me up. usually i wake up suddenly, fully realizing what happened. it is a bizarre experience, i beleive this is what is sometimes defined as obe, alien abduction, sucubus/incubus encounter, whatever it is, strangeness is definately an aspect. anyone else experience this? or it's trippy cousin, sleepwalking?

o and to respond to dani's post above, the hallucinogen is DMT, our brains produce it naturally, and it also happens to be the compound found in ayhuasca used by shamans etc. a scientist at the university of phoenix wrote a book called "spirit molecule" where he examined the affects of dmt. the book sounds extremely interesting, as dmt research claims the chemical to be secreted in high ammounts at the time of birth, and the time of death. so the conclusion some people hold is dmt is the chemical gateway for conciousness to enter a body, and then leave. they have also found evidence that suggests dmt is produced in small ammounts by the pineal gland while dreaming. and when people come off dmt trips, they often describe the memories of the trip leaving them much the same way the memory of a dream leaves you.

DMT is some nifty stuff.... Does anyone else like when your about to fall asleep and you feel like your falling and jolt up. Just recently i started enjoying that quite a bit, its a cool feeling, but it rarely happens to me.
I am an aspiring novelist, and sometimes in my dreams when I realize I am dreaming I will say to myself "dude, when you wake up you have to write this dream down, it would make an awesome novel"
"They won't break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show. It is then that we will see the rising of the moon."

^ I used to keep a notepad next my bed so that when I woke-up from particularly weird dream, I could write it down while it was still fresh. You'd be amazed how much stuff you forget in the first few minutes alone.

I have a notepad within 3 feet of me no matter where I am (seriously, its nuts...) but for some reason when I wake up I always try to think about it and analyze it as much as possible before I start writing it down, and boom within 2 minutes I forgot half of it, another minute or 2 later and all I have left makes no sense...

Just write it down as quickly as possible, no matter how nonsensical it may seem at the time. Sort it out and analyze it later.

one of the first steps toward having regular lucid dreams is to be able to remember your dreams. many things i have read suggest doin exactly what yall are talkin about, writing them down immeadiatley
i've heard different techniques to develop in order to lucid dream. one technique is to periodically throughout the day ask yourself if you are dreaming out loud. by doing this you will start asking yourself in your dreams if you're dreaming and then realize you are in a dream and you can begin the lucid dreaming. the second thing to do is record all your dreams. am i dreaming?

here is a link to rick strassman's website, the guy who wrote spirit molecule www.rickstrassman.com/
i've recently watched a movie on video.google.com called magical egypt, on part 5 of the series (or was it part 4?) there is in depth analyzing of the temple of luxor. john anthony west, the guide/narrator for the film, goes into an in depth analysis of glyphs in the temple that are outlining the spirits journey after death as it exits "through" the pineal gland, they had all this symbolism relating the third eye or overmind to the pineal gland and conciousness etc.anyway, it was interesting. o so i also read recently that fluoride collects primarily in the human body in the pineal gland. where it calcifies it at an alarming ammount. so the water we drink is basically calcifying our third eyes. theres more, but i guess that's enough for now.
check out this site. its reaaallly cool. browse around a bit. great reading. this is more on the reality checks technique as well as just about anything else you want to know about getting lucid.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
the DMT book sounds fascinating from the excerpts i read on his site.
I want to read it, on the website it says there is a documentary coming out soon on the subject>nice. I'm currently reading a book called "teachigs of Don Juan: a Yaqui way of knowledge". anyone heard of or read this book?

Haha, I actualyl do this in the shower in the morning a lot and it does feel good in a weird way but it would feel a lot better jsut to be able to go back to sleep.

A friend of mine took DMT earlier this year, and it seemed like for the next month that's all he talked about. Sounds amazing, but I guess the law is super harsh in regards to DMT.
~~ But in regards to dreams, I had a really weird dream last night... It involved me and a bunch of people from my college dorm going on a road trip via bus. At one point I broke apart from my group and went to this vegan restaurant owned by Jack Johnson and he was going to make me Banana Pancakes, except they were out of bananas... so he made me peach pancakes instead....
Weird... And I don't even really listen to Jack Johnson.

I had a dream that I was at Bonnaroo and everyone was sleeping in front of the What Stage. I took acid with my friend and we were the only two people awake. I vaguely remember going into actual bathrooms when I had to take a piss. Interesting dream.
