I'd love to see other bands/artists post blogs complaining about poop that went wrong during their shows or in their lives...
Great White: "who da HELL do those peopolz think theys iz bein' hataz to us when ew had nuttin' to do with da damn stadium burning to da ground durin' a show!!!!! $@#% rock music!"
Sammy Hagar: "Why da HELL do peepz like David Lee Roth better den me??@!? He jus jumps around like a damn spider monkey da hole time. And my hair is prettier den his"
All kayne had to do was during good morning say good morning bonnaroo, i'm sorry i'm late but i'm gonna make it worth your while for staying with me and all would have been forgiven. He couldn't even do that. I didn't see the set but I sure heard it from vip. If he at least recognized the crowd for waiting for him then things would have been completely different.

I haven't commented too much on the situation, only laughing at the humor of it while not taking it too seriously. But here's how I see it. Also, this isn't addressed to anyone, it's just me responding to things I've been hearing here and elsewhere.
I understand when people wish for Kanye addressing the crowd and saying screw the set-up, and maybe he has the skills to work a crowd without an elaborate light set-up--or maybe he doesn't. But if he wants to put up his "Glow in the Dark" tour no matter what, then that's his business. That's what he sold to Bonnaroo when they were looking for artists. So that falls on AC/Superfly, not Kanye. They knew about the show requirements ahead of time, and perhaps they didn't properly accommodate. But I'm going to leave that to Superfly/AC's response before I make a verdict one way or another. However, Pearl Jam Was an hour late. If it is indeed true that they used muscle to get Phil Lesh to end early (if true, that's horrible), they could have done the same to Pearl Jam. Granted it may be taboo to force headliners off-stage, we have set times for a reason. That's the reason the Flaming Lips couldn't start early and stopped short at a "sound check." That's the reason most of the other acts had to end on time. I'm not trying to blame this on Pearl Jam, and I think it is foolish for anyone to do so. But I don't think it's a valid point to make to say "so what" to the fact that Pearl Jam ended late. To say that they deserve it due to their ability or crowd response is purely subjective because I'm sure a lot of other sets could have been said the same. Schedules are made to be followed for a reason; this is what could happen when you don't--though I'm not saying that there aren't other factors in play with Kanye's fiasco. So yeah, I think Superfly/AC could have done a better job enforcing their schedule.
With that said, yeah it would have been proper for Kanye to address the situation. But perhaps he is one of those that thinks breaking character could ruin the show. I think it's dumb, but I'm not going to jump on him for not addressing the crowd due to the "not wanting to break character" possibility. I think it would have been worse had he done a "normal" set with "minimal" crowd acknowledgment--like if he came out and said "BONNAROOOO" and Then didn't mention anything about being late. Of course, it would have been best for him to break character and fully acknowledge the situation there and then. Kanye could have calmed the situation there, and he didn't. His blame in the situation lies there, and it's fair to say that much. But to go further and say that he doesn't care about his crowds may be saying too much. Again, breaking character, ect. A performer could still care about a crowd without acknowledging them. It's just poor decision making, not lack of care. But he's addressed the issue now, perhaps not in the most professional way. Albeit in the Kanye "CAPSLOCK CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL" way, he has made some attempt to apologize for the scenario. So, that's good, I guess.
I find it curious that there is no mention of the situation at all from Superfly/AC. Ultimately, it's their responsibility to coordinate everything--schedules, crews, ensuring stages are being set-up. Instead of informing the crowd, they just kept pushing back the times on the giant screens as if everything was normal. If not them, at least Kanye's management takes responsibility--not necessarily Kanye himself. And in the end, I think AC/Superfly should be the first people we direct our questions to. From then, they could direct us to Kanye's management, and from then we could be directed to Kanye. But there seemed to be more of a focus on Kanye himself in this whole situation. If AC/Superfly and Kanye's management clear themselves, Then I would expect Kanye to clear himself. But because of his lack of crowd acknowledgment, it became easy to attach a face to the situation. Hence the waves of "f*ck Kanye" the days following.
Yeah, it's a funny situation, and strangely it's a unifying event for the 'Roo community--"haha, yeah man. F*ck Kanye." But we shouldn't take it too seriously, nor should we let it anger us--no matter whose fault it is. The "f*ck Kanye" chants were in good humor, I'm sure. But things like this could get out of hand if we don't watch ourselves. In no situation is it called for to hurl things at expensive equipment. As much as I was embarrassed for Kanye, I was equally embarrassed for the people who were throwing crap on stage (and I think that's been said here before perhaps verbatim, can't remember). I'm sure it wasn't anyone in the "'Roo community" that would do something like that, but it reflects on Bonnaroo as a whole nonetheless. It shouldn't, but it does. From that, it might become easy to write of Kanye or his fans. I even notice karma going in the negative for people who happen to defend him. Is it really worth (albeit meaninglessly over the internet) smiting someone for trying to bring another light on the situation? Anyway, I can understand Some of the capslock rage in his blog, and he didn't seem to address it AT any kind of community as a whole, so that's good.
Anyway, I didn't read the replies to the blog, but I hope the responses refrain from name calling or assumptions. Of course it's a valid opinion to say "I didn't like your music before, but I tried to give you a shot and you disappointed me and now I still don't like your music." And that can be said civilly. But is it necessary? There's constructive criticism, and then there's negative criticism. And trading negative criticism on the internet can be fun, I guess. I just hope nobody expects anything out of it. I typically refrain from it, because I could put myself in a hypothetical situation where I am famous and make a mistake. I'm sure it would just get annoying to sort through hundreds of emails or comments with the same criticism. When considering that, I think it would be better to turn the other cheek, because I'm sure anything I would say has probably been relayed to him tenfold by now.
In conclusion, I guess I'm trying to say everybody is to blame a little bit (some more than others), and it's ultimately best to move on. A minority of fans are to blame for throwing crap on stage (maybe that could have scared him from speaking up), a little more fans are to blame for being so quick to give into negativity. Kanye is to blame for not cooling down the situation right then or there. Also, (don't know the details about this) I would try to be at the venue I am performing hours before said performance. And, if it's true he demanded Phil Lesh to end, then yeah, that definitely negates any sympathy I have for him in the situation. Furthermore, Kanye perhaps could have cooled down with the "internet tough guy" routine. None of this was the fault of his Mac Book Air. AC/Superfly could have done damage control during and after. Since nobody in Kanye's management was coming on stage to inform the crowd, They could have easily done that. And the days following, they could have mentioned something--yet nothing was said. That's not good PR policy, methinks. Furthermore, AC/Superfly could have been more on the ball in enforcing their schedules.
With all that said...
I f*cking lol'd at this: "I'm typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!!" I'm pretty sure typing with Normal pressure could break that thing.
Just a preface: I know I am not a regular poster, at all, (but a diligent reader since before my first roo, you guys are what keeps the true spirit of roo alive) I've been wondering about this since that night and I figured that you all would probably know- it's 4am and i have nothing better to do either....
So, wasn't a huge fan of Kanye before, but figured I'd check him out for the infamous glow in the dark show, seing as we were in a "good" state of mind, when we realised he wouldn't be on for a while we wandered off to Ghostland and its captivating lights, no real loss in my book.
But is he why Phil Lesh ended 45 min early? Were they forced to end so he could have sole control of the time slot? or was there some other reason?
you never know what goes on behind the scenes but i think that this just confirms that kanye just loves himself too much. im sure the late pj set screwed him but why did he switch time slots in the first place.
first of all he should know theres no way pj finishes on time and 2 just be grateful for the slot they give u. people would still enjoy the show it doesnt have to be a freakin perfect atmosphere. i would have enjoyed seeing him whether or not it was at night or not but he screwed himself on this one.
Now, if you don't like Kanye or his music, then you're not going to like his show. From what I've read, it sounds like a lot of those saying that he didn't put on a good performance weren't going to like it even if it started on time.
And those who like Kanye, saw the show, but are still upset about the lack of acknowledgement - if he had come on at 2:45, as scheduled, would you still be complaining? I'm not saying you shouldn't be, but if you spent 2 hours singing along to all the songs and watching the light show and everything, would you really have cared? Or would you have said "that's cool that he stayed in character the whole time, even though he's a horrible actor."
Back to the start time. I think Kanye isn't getting that the "Kanye sucks" comments are more due to the start time/lack of acknowledgement than the quality of his performance.
And, frankly, I was thinking the next day - without hearing opinions from others - that it was mostly Bonnaroo's fault. If they couldn't get his stage up in time, they should have told him to scrap it. And I thought the reason they moved Soul Rebels Brass Band to the Which Stage was to give them time to partially set up Kanye's set.
So yeah, something should have been said at the time. But better arrangements should have been made beforehand. Maybe Kanye should have been scheduled even later, maybe his set should have been partially assembled backstage, maybe he should have been told that he could have the light show but not the planet. I don't know and I haven't heard Superfly's argument.
But you know? I was kind of happy to read Kanye's post in all caps. I'm happy that he's angry. If he had sent out some PR-written press release, that would have been worse.
Kanye is also in a war with Ice T, telling the media that Ice T is washed up and should just keep his mouth shut... Maybe Bonnaroo should book Ice T next year. Or better yet Ice T and Kanye cage match at What stage. I would wait until 4:25 am for that.
Well, in Kanye's defense I can atleast understand why he has never cared about his fans for the most part... ;D
lol I was just thinking that. Well not quite that. More, "no wonder Kanye doesn't understand Bonnaroo when he's used to only dealing with idiots", but I like yours better
