All you Infooroosters are so smart and helpful I figured it couldn't hurt to stop here and ask for advice yet again. Last night I dropped my Macbook, and now the screen looks cracked sorta from the inside out. Like when I touch it its obviously not cracked but there are cracks all over it like a broken window. I can still use it, open programs and so forth, but there are white spaces in some of the cracked places... sorta like a broken window with pieces of glass missing.
So my question is: Do you know what's wrong? And should I get it repaired through Apple Care or should I take it somewhere else? My Googling has told me that Apple Care won't fix accidental or physical damage, and that if you tell them about damage you caused it could void your Apple Care warranty. But then I read a couple things on message boards and stuff about Apple fixing things that were accidental damage... I'm not really sure what to do. I'm very super poor so this is a really big stress for me.
Well it is a broken LCD screen I doubt they will call it accidental, but it does not hurt to ask. On a PC a replacement screen is about 150-200 dollars, and I would charge someone 100 dollars labor to replace it. Macs are usually more expensive though so I would add 50 bucks to both those numbers. You can look around online though.
Youch, $400?? I don't have that kind of money at all right now.
I guess I'm going to try calling Apple Care and seeing if they'll take care of it before I try to get it repaired somewhere else. Parminoke, did Apple know you caused the damage to your computer and repaired it for free anyway? I'm gonna try to play dumb but I feel like my specific problem is pretty obviously caused by some sort of impact... from what I've found online it seems like they are kinda strict about that sort of thing. And the last thing I want is to lose the year I have left on my warranty that would cover other issues that aren't my fault, which is what I'm scared will happen if I call and they discover I basically busted it. I guess I can just never fess up to dropping it, and its my word against theirs, but I'm a terrible liar...
If Apple doesn't repair it for free I'm not going to have my laptop for a long time. Too many other things to pay for.
That's why work computers are so great, I guess. Inforoo > stupid internship.
Hey, maybe I should email Kanye and see what he did when those stupid hippies almost made him break his Macbook Air. Seems like it was working okay, except the Caps Lock key... ;D

I called and I don't think the guy bought my bullshit. He said I need to take it into an Apple store to evaluate whether it is the kind of damage Apple Care will cover. I'm crossing my fingers they will! I'm gonna wear a low cut shirt to help my case
