My friend and I are wanting to attend Bonnaroo next year as a gift to ourselves for finishing high school and moving onto college. I'm going to be 18 by Roo next year. I'm wondering if it is allowed if my friend (who will be 17 at Roo next year) and I camped by ourselves next year. I'm pretty sure there is not problem for myself, but is there an age restriction of people that can camp at Roo?
Will this be a problem if just us and a few more kids (most likely aged 17-18) go by ourselves? Or do people under 18 need to be with people over 21?

There's no age restriction, although I would encourage you to try to get someone over 21 to come along if you can. Before this year's Roo there were a couple of 16 year olds asking the same thing and I told them they'd be fine, although some others disagreed and thought they were too young to come alone. I'm not sure if they made it and survived or not, but I did hear there were no deaths this year.
^yeah I would encourage finding a 20+ year old who is cool to go with you. It will make your time at 'roo better I promise. Just look around some of us cool "older" peeps are around.

I don't think you guys will have a problem, if you keep some things in mind. If you haven't been to anything like this before, you should research Bonnaroo as much as possibe. Inforoo is loaded with info and help. It gets crazy hot, and being prepared really helps. Don't bring people that you think "can't hang". I kinda think more people more problems. The heat is serious, and so are the good times, so they both can play havoc with your weekend. I went to Australia with a friend after graduation, and it was a blast. There were some hairy moments when I wish I had experience on my side. I had a good friend with me that was like minded about money, safety, and we had planned and overplanned Do that and you will be golden.
If you're level-headed you can survive at that age. For some it will be stimulus overload. It would be best to find someone a little older to tag with ya.

thanks guys. I think i can handle it. I went to Lollapalooza last year, and while yes, that is a whole different animal its still a partial taste. I've camped before so I'm sure thats not too much of a problem. My group will probably have 4 people maximum and I'll definitely only bring people that can handle/enjoy it.

You'll be fine and it will be an incredible way to finish off your experience in high school. My first year (last year) was the weekend after graduation and I can safely say Bonnaroo changed my life.
Just look out for each other and keep an open-mind and you'll be just fine.
Its fine. You're allowed. Whether its advisable, I don't think it has so much to do with age as maturity. It would be a shame for you to get in over your heads and not enjoy it, you know, so I definitely recommend a lot of research and planning. I also second bringing a smaller, tight-knit group so things don't get too chaotic - for sure no more than 5 people, in my opinion.

I was 15 when i went to my first bonnaroo with my 16 year old friend and i'm around to speak of it. Bonnaroo could care less how old you are camping on your own. So you should have no problems with the allowance of your situation.

15 was a typo, I was actually 1500. I'm father time. ;D
basically, you need to bring along the "responsible" friend. You know that one guy that always thinks things through, still party's with the crew but stays in control and can take care of almost any situation. Bring that guy, and you'll be all good.
first year we went ('05) my friends little brother and his friends had just graduated from high school they came and camped with us, but I only saw them in mornings then they were off an their own and they all managed to survive.

im not even going to SAY my age here...however....i think its good advice to have someone "relatively clear" to deal with "whatever" if you plan to party. i dont think age is the issue...im the "relatively clear" person ....and i surely dont care about age. if you are under 21 you will be welcomed at roo.....once there - most people just want you to be safe and have fun. i sure never carded anyone when i was say...escorting them to the bathrooms.

just one addition...you may want to hook into the inforoo group who has a camp in camp only....we are a nice bunch of folks and if you ran into trouble i feel like we would try and assist you.
ehhh man you couldn't possibly be that old! there is no such thing as old at bonnaroo! everybody is welcome, 6 to 60 blind, crippled or crazy(no offense intented to those are in fact blind, disabled, or mentally handicapped)!

I'm in the same boat but I think it'll be fine. Like others said on here research, research, research. You want to be as prepared as possible before you venture out

At 38 I'm pretty ancient by now, and the backdrop of Bonnaroo only serves to emphasize that fact. I'm also a devoted father and family man. At Bonnaroo I don't dwell on this but I make it my mission to keep an eye out for the young and inexperienced folk.
In 2007 I camped right next to some high school kids that were there alone. They didn't have any food or supplies, all they had was a gazebo style tent and spent the hot days underneath their pickup truck or inside with it running and the AC on. They did bring a lot of "consumables", so I told them that if they were gonna party like that they needed to remember to EAT. I nagged them constantly about eating. "Did you guys eat?" "Do you want something to eat?" (I had more food than I needed so I shared, I also shared baby-wipes, TP, chocolate, etc.) They even made a point of letting me know they ate.
So the moral of my story is Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus.... no wait wrong story. Oh yeah yes there are good mature people at Roo who you may not see us but we're secretly watching out for you.
But don't assume all "old" people are cool, there're still a great many who have no other intentions but to take advantage of you.
Fortunately though there're people like myself among the crowd.
So you'll be fine at the Roo.
And don't forget to eat. And drink water like a camel!
