So there's a few bands that I was sad about missing by selling my Lollapalooza tickets and buying Bonnaroo tickets. Bloc Party, the National, Brand New, and Girl Talk were the main four.
With this new style, and a backing of two great CDs (or at least one for you Silent Alarm fans), I think Bloc Party would make for the greatest late night set at Bonnaroo in 09. Who's with me?
But what's nice about Bloc Party... is that they only need a tent and an hour-and-a-half set. You could throw them on right after the headliner... and have another band on after them... like Ghostland Observatory or some DJ. Or you could throw them on after someone else.
I've never seen them before, but I don't think performing while its light out would do Bloc Party justice... especially with their new dance-like tunes.
i just can't get anything that isn't Silent Alarm from Block Party. when that album first dropped i would probably would have been all for them coming to roo, but i don't think i would see them at this point.
umphreys doesnt deserve a late night ever, unless they are opening for the biscuits.
Did any of you see the late night Umphrey's set at Langerado this year? That show was Amazing. One of the best shows all weekend. I love me some Biscuits too, but I have to agree with Strum.
On a side note, I have no problem with Umphrey opening up for the Biscuits at Roo in '09....
That would probably be the best night of the whole festival. Imagine how many glowsticks would be around with those two crowds together. That would be awesome.
Bloc Party is cool and they would make a nice addition to any festival. But a late night slot?? I think that's reaching at bit. Not to sound harsh, but Bonnaroo late night is a coveted spot. For me, a late night artist needs a ton of live experience, a great catalog and the ability to make everyone in the crowd make the, "I just sh!t myself!" face.
Now, if there were an indie themed tent...with like 3 bands late night... that could work.
That's what I'm saying... Bloc Party doesn't have to be the only band on the stage that night. I doubt they'd need a 3 hour set. Maybe put Bloc Party and !!!, Bloc Party and Mark Ronson, Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs, etc... But Bloc Party would be so much better at night, especially with their new dance-themed music.
I mean... it's really hard to say they don't deserve a late night spot. They'll have a new CD out before Roo 09 and we never know how that CD is going to take. My guess is that the CD is going to explode... at least in the UK, but who knows.
I could never justify giving Bloc Party a late night. If Umphrey's doesn't get a late night, Bloc Party sure as hell shouldn't get one
What does one have to do with the other?
They literally have nothing to do with each other
I just think that Umphrey's is more "latenight material" than Bloc Party is. From the looks of it, the late night at Roo this year was a huge success (anything that started prior to 4:30 am, that is ) So basically I was just suggesting that there will likely always be bands that are more deserving of a late night act at Roo than Bloc Party, as might have been the case with Umph this year.
My logic makes sense to nobody except my head often. This is probably one of those cases
