welll it was my first time making it out there and i have to say it was one of the best weekend s of my life. its just a tiny place, there were about a thousand people there. it was all small bands. and it was quacking insane. covert operations played a latenight on saturday and it was probably the best show i have ever seen any band put on ever. and it was all from a stage that wouldnt be big enough to park my van on. the whole stage was full of people. there had to be 20 people up there playing different instruments and dancing and raging. words cannot even begin to explain the amount of fun i had there and the amount of positive energy that flowed around that place. and not only is covert operations the greatest unknown band in the world they are also some of the greatest people i have ever had the pleasure to meet. same thing goes for ann arbor dub project, jam sammich, sprout, cosmic railroad, environmental encroachment(these cats were especially insane and awesome to see), mc sparkplug was incredible, as was ferdinand fox. it was just so amazing. and all for 30 bucks!!!!!! i think half of the people there were in bands! anyhow if your from the midwest and you see a covert operations show somewhere be sure to go. its always good, but if you can see them at night at a fest i highly recommend it. they definitely took it to another level. all of the rest of the music was insane and i would go see any of those bands any time, anywhere! there was only like 10 vendors but they were all reasonably priced and the lot was full of heady spaghetti made by yetis from the sarenghetti!!!! and of course dollar grilled cheeses. it was just such an amazing time. it was also great to meet all of the old heads. willow ranch has kind of become the continuation and celebration of rainbow farm. it was amazing to meet some of these people and hear their stories... and although the rainbow farm tragedy is so sad its beautiful to see how they have carried on. and how the memory of their friends and that magical time, place, and people still touches their lives, and still encourages them to fight against the injustices of our governments ridiculous war on NO NO WORD!!!!. anyhow i HIGHLY recommend making it out to willow ranch. and i highly highly highly recommend everyone see covert at night at a fest asap. and even if ya just catch em at a small bar with 20 people its always amazing!!!! and for anyone that cares here is an article that playboy wrote telling the whole rainbow farm story. www.rainbowfarmcamp.com/
and although the playboy article dosent mention it i think that it is certainly worth mentioning that on the day that tom and rollie were buried as everyone arrived at the funeral home there were 2 rainbows in the sky over the funeral home. i heard that story from several people and everytime it was amazing to hear and feel the love and energy they have about such a sad thing. i only wish that i could have experience it all before it was destroyed. anyhow here is a link to willow ranchs website. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=75339721 there is another fest comiing up to celebrate the end of the bush regime. its called the end of an error. its august 22-24. the bands have not been announced yet but if covert operations is there i will not be missing it!!!! make it if ya can!!!!!
