I'm not a metal guy. I kinda liked Black Sabbath and Judas Priest back in the day, but that's about all. Next week I'm going to an all day metal show here in Tampa. It 10-15 bands with Slipknot headlining. I'm doing this because I'm a good uncle. My sister wouldn't let my nephew go without adult supervision.
Yeah...not a big Slipknot fan...though I'll admit that Corey Taylor's OTHER band - Stone Sour - does one of my FAVE songs ever....Through Glass....but everyone gets lucky once
But HEY! ;D You ARE gonna get to see at least TWO REALLY COOL BANDS!!
Disturbed and DragonForce! ;D THOSE I think you will enjoy....DragonForce because of the guitars - and you being the guitar virtuoso I KNOW you to be will have to appreciate them for THAT if nothing else
And Disturbed is just ...well... you either know or you'll find out! LOL! Go crank some Stupify.....in case you DON'T know....here:
LOL! I have to agree that GH probably both MADE and RUINED DragonForce Strum! In the long run...more ruined than made methinks.... Which is a shame cause they really AREN'T as cheese whizzy as they now appear to be...they DO got chops....just now every nine yo in the country is playing theirs along with them
And I agree....Stone Sour would be WAAY better as a headliner than Slipknot
i'm a fan of metal as well as everything else...listen to it...you can feel the grooves, just crunchier!!!! my friend wants me to go with him, but i don't have the loot.
slipknot is fun to watch and this is supposedly their last tour together.
I'll probably just hang back on the lawn and have my nephew check in periodically. Maybe I can meet a nice mother of a teenager to hang out with. No corn at this one, which would make it more tolerable. It's tough being the responsible adult.

Slipknot, Mastodon, and Machine fucking Head. Done deal. Disturbed....first album, awesome "flavor of the moment" album, I totally dug it when it was first coming out of Chicago, and my cousin wouldn't shut up about them. If you were going to the Aug 6th show, Kingdom of Sorrow is playing, and that is one kick-ass band, Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed, and Kirk Windstein of Down/ Crowbar. LOVE Kirk, awesome guitarist. Slipknot does put on a fantastic show, I've seen them numerous times, and they never disappoint. I saw them waaay back when they were opening for Coal Chamber & Machine Head at the Riviera in Chicago, SICK show. Dragonforce....well, IMO you can have em, they are too corny for me, I dont care how fast the guitarist are, its just a lil cheesy. I dont dig. Mastodon...one word "amazing"....nuff said. Machine Head, well one of my favorite bands of my younger years, and still def. up there, they are still pushing the envelope of metal brutalness. If you want anything uploaded Mojo, just let me know, I'll pick out some good ones for you.
Wow, I really only know Slipknot and Mastadon and that's mostly by reputation. I'll hold off on any downloads for now. Maybe after the show if something catches my ear.
I tried to get my nephew to go to see Tom Petty and Steve Winwood with me this week but he had to work. I'm really trying to broaden his musical tastes some. I might take him to 'Roo or another festival sometime.

Black Tide, Mastodon, and Dragon Force. I was gonna go to this if I had the money just to see Mastodon again. I wouldn't mind seeing Black Tide either, although I don't much care for the lyrics.
just found out today that my buddy got 6 free tickets from his gf's work...can't turn down a free show...this show reminds me a lot of my high school days.
I'd check out some of those bands on that bill, but I'd be wary of the crowd. But I guess that's why I was excited for Metallica @ Bonnaroo - I wanted to see them, but never did because of the environment that would go with it. Your sister is wise for not letting your nephew go to that without adult supervision.
Once upon a time, I randomly enjoyed some corn with Slipknot's DJ. One of my friends from back in the day went on to become part of their road crew.

I would hit this for sure just to see Mastadon! They absolutely rocked at Roo. Machine Head is awesome live too! The only thing that sucks is that Mastadon doesn't get the headline spot. In my opinoin, they are better than Disturbed and Slipknot put together.
I have a couple friends going to that show, mojo. I hear slipknot is crazy live.
Slipknot IS crazy live. I wont say you'll walk away liking them, because I've seen them, and I don't like them, but I think it will certainly keep you entertained.
Well, I went to the show as planned and i had more fun than I thought I would. Early on they had some of the lesser known bands playing on two side by side stages. They alternated 30 minute sets with no break time in between. It was relentless head banging. I even moshed a little. Not really, a pit formed around me and I had to fight my way out. Socioligists should study mosh pits, they are an interesting phenemena(sp?). The standouts for me of the bands on the small stage were Airbourne and Machine Head. Machine head was probably the best band all day and should have been on the main stage. Mastadon, Dragonforce, Distubed and, slipknot had the the big stage. I think I liked Disturbed the most but Slipknot definately had the best stage and lighting.
I may go to another sometime if my nephew wants me to. It was a fun time and a good bonding experience.
P.S. I played my nephew some Rodrigo Y Gabriella in the car and he loved it. We need those guys to come to Florida.

I love metal and am kind of jealous. I don't care much for Slipknot. They have their moments. From the footage I've seen they put on a great show. Dragonforce is awesome and if you play guitar you will at least appreciate them. Mastadon I really like and machine Head has some good stuff, but then again you don't like metal.
**EDIT - I should have read the whole thread before responding. Glad you had some fun.
and you being the guitar virtuoso I KNOW you to be
Guitar virtuoso? me?
LMAO!! You are FAR too modest Mojo! I've met one of your students....remember?? Speaking of.....Rebirth Jazz is going to be @ VooDoo....saw them on the lineup the other night and IMMEDIATELY thought of you guys!! ;D
