The High Zero Festival of experimental improvised music is taking place again September 17-21 in good old Baltimore. And it's their 10th anniversary, so it promises to be quite special. If you live anywhere even remotely close to the city, I urge you to check it out-- you won't find an event like this anywhere else in the country.
They've got performances every night from Wednesday the 17th to Sunday the 21st, and a special matinée program on Saturday. Also, there will be High Jinx all weekend around the city, too-- guerrilla music/performance art pieces in public spaces. Not to mention lots of free sound installations and workshops!
Here's the list of artists participating:
Special 10th Anniversary Artists: Olga Adorno Nice France Tony Conrad Buffalo NY Peter Rose Philadelphia Jenny Graf Sheppard Baltimore
From afar: Tetuzi Akiyama (acoustic guitar) Japan Liz Allbee (trumpet) San Francisco Magali Babin (amplified metal) Montreal Dan Blacksberg (trombone) Philadelphia Tony Buck (drums) Berlin MV Carbon (electronics, tapes) NYC Chris Corsano (drums) Scotland Lucas Crane (tapes) NYC Arrington de Dionysio (voice, bass clarinet) Portland OR Bill Nace (guitar) North Hampton MA Carlos Santiago (violin) Philadephia Robert Van Heumen (electronics) Amsterdam Camel Zekri (oud, guitar, electronics) North Africa

I would be interested in just seeing Tony Conrad. I need a linky .. Please.
EDIT: and Chris Corsano OH WOW. I haven't heard much after his work with Paul Flaherty. Jesus. You know he and Brian Chippendale played on Bjork's new album (Volta) right. Really interested...

You can view artist bios, schedules of performances/events, and more. Tickets to each concert is $13 online, $12 at the door, and a weekend pass is $51. People, this is an utter steal. Get your ass there, no matter what. You will leave a changed person.
