Everyone at work last night were all a buzz about this rumor that McCain's VP choice has a little secret. The super market gossip mags will run with this one forever...
come on people - her daughter is pregnant - Trigg is Sarah Palin's baby - and McCain made a huge mistrake in who he picked for a running mate - nothing more to see here - move on down the road.

I absolutely agree with you. I just thought the closed comments were interesting. There are a lot of funny coincidences but I think thats as deep as it goes.

While I do think families should be generally off limits in politics, this is a story worth following up on. Should we be hounding and condemning the Palin family for having an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter? Absolutely not. But perhaps there should be some discussion of Palin's continued support of abstinence only education.

That is interesting. But I think the media is just really making a lot of hype out of nothing. I don't condone this in anyway - but this kind of situation happens all the time IRL - and to celebraties also - Jamie Lynn Spears anyone?
Well....and this is just my $.02 for what it's worth....
I don't think the girl should be made to suffer for her mom's choices...but....
Let's face it....her mom is running for one of the most powerful offices in the world. And yes...we SHOULD scrutinze ANYONE who wants to be in that position as closely as possible. And if their platform includes positions that influence the access to health care and health education that young women or young people in general get...and if her mother has actually spoken out on what she feels is right for OTHER young girls sexual education and rights...then...yes it IS relevant. Cause if HER daughter doesn't count in those statistics then...who does? Who is she trying to protect/effect? MY daughter? YOUR daughter? It has to apply to everyone or no one.....
I was one of those statistics just like her daughter...so I don't feel like I am being hypocritical here....I can understand what they are going through....except I had to go through it in the Bible Belt...and it's interesting to me to see that the same people that pretty much crucified me will be placating this situation and turning a blind eye....which DOES seem REALLY hypocritical to me...esp since I'm sure that if it was one of Obama's daughter's or even Chelsea Clinton this would be THE central theme of the election for the religious right.....no matter whether the decision was to keep the baby and marry the father or not...and who's willing to bet the marriage DOES NOT last....but that's just ME being pessimistic I'm sure
As I say....will be interesting to see how it plays out...but more than anything I can TRULY feel for Bristol....I do hope that she's ok when this all falls out.....
who thinks that she's being forced to marry the father of the baby? I do. That's what happens in these situations. that's what these people think is the "right thing to do".
I, too, worry about that Dan.....these are mere kids themselves and are probably doing what they have been taught was "the right thing to do" as you say. And what they are feeling the pressure to do....but really....at 17 they have NO IDEA what they really WANT to do...or SHOULD do....have no idea WHO they are yet.....so sad.....if it's truly what they WANT to do then it's great that they have support. But I do wonder if either of them have doubts....do they feel they can go to anyone with those doubts and stop the freight train that is speeding down on them? I seriously doubt it...I know I sure didn't....and I was under no where NEAR the pressure that these two are....
Just a side not while I'm here: the Palin's at least came up with some fun names for their kids. (Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig) Actually, she may have thought that she was naming hobbits....

LOL^! But seriously though, can someone explain to me why Sarah Palin was chosen as McCains running mate? I'm not a guy whos huge on politics, but I just really don't get why he would do this, it just makes no sense to me.
Clearly the GOP are going for the women vote. What surprises me is that they actually believe that women that were for Hillary Clinton are stupid enough to vote the GOP ticket just cause it has a female on it. (please don't let them be that stupid) Come on girls...this is our chance to tell them that women are not interchangeable!
^^Yep. While I suppose it could be seen as a healthy dose of bipartisanship, I had a yucky taste in my mouth after she spoke about Hilary Clinton as if the two women weren't ridiculously opposite, and as if Sarah Palin is any kind of champion for women's issues. I almost feel badly for the woman- here she is expected to bring in the very liberal Hilary supporters, but she was chosen for her uber right wing politics? That's quite a feat, and one that she is definitely not going to pull off.

He did it to sew up his republican base. And it worked.
She's a right-wing evangelical's wet dream. Now there's a video of her that's surfaced where she says that US troops are on a mission from God, or some nonsense. She scares me.

McCain def. went for shock value on this one. I think he knows it's his only chance for votes. Republicans should not be fooled-but I think they will be because they want to be, and vote that base because maybe they want to set the precedent-even though it will be for ViceP.
