This is horrible. The only reason i can think that they left big cypress is maybe the seminole tribe refused to let us come back
naw man, it says in that article chick posted that one of the reasons they are moving is for the day passers, and how the traffic was hard. its a $$$ game.
Thats definitely the case. I went last year, but I was going in and out each day because I was staying with my buddies who did not want to do the camping thing. All of my friends that were going in and out each day were pretty pissed off due to the traffic jams. And I understand that the best idea was to camp out and that is how you were going to have the most fun, but alot of the south florida people did not want to camp when their houses were an hour to two hours away. They basically likened the drive to going from Palm Beach to Miami each night, which they do on a weekly basis.
So while the promoters were appealing to one type of festival goer - the camping, late night at site, overall 3 day experience which is the majority of this board, they were alienating the other type of festival goer - the go to show then back to home or to late night show. And remember that this was the first time Langerado did three day deal with on-site camping. So all the previous attendees were used to this scenario.
So as this kinda sucks for the hardcore festival people, it is pandering to the more casual festival people. And there are alot more of those types in South Florida.
I think that especially with this economy we are going to see less festivals next year. If this is what it takes for Langerado to keep going, then thats what they have to do. Hopefully, there will be plenty of camping fests to choose from next year with Roo, Echo, Rothbury, Sasquatch, etc. And I think that we have all learned from the massive proliferation of festivals this year that we should all probably wait and see the line-ups of all the festivals to determine which ones we want to go to, because the main reason we are there is for the music. Anyways, thats my long-winded rant to show the other side of the coin on Langerado.
However, I do have a feeling that the crowd wont be as good as last year's. I have been to a couple of Ultra's and WMC's and while not always the case, there is an escalated level of douchbaggery that I have seen in the past.
NOOOOO!!!! I loved big cypress besides the ants and was so looking foward to going back. Not so sure about late night at multiple venues--- how safe is that gonna be?
I think we can pretty much count on there not being any late night sets if its in the heart of a big city.
Look at Lollapalooza, sets cant go over 10:00 there.
or maybe some sort of Ultra Dance conference merger (that usually happens end of March anyways).
Yeah, Ultra Music Festival usually kicks off or ends the Winter Music Conference every year in late March. I don't think that they would combine the two, because both have done pretty decent business coexisting with each other. Part of this is because they cater to different fanbases - jammy bands compared to electronic bands/dj sets, so there is room for both.
Lets just hope that Langerado does not go the way of the Bang festival - which had a career year in 2006 with Gnarls Barkley, Modest Mouse, MFing Daft Punk live, Duran Duran, and a crap ton of other bands and djs. Then in 2007 they switched it up from an indietronica festival to a mainstream affair with Kayne and Smashing Pumpkins which promptly got cancelled.

Just like Lolla and previous Langerados (up til this past year), they would most likely have off-site late night sets at local clubs. They would probably use Ft. Lauderdale clubs, which makes it a little difficult for those that have a hotel in Miami.

thank you for your thought out response, i think you are probably right... langerado was just a really beautiful weekend for me last year, and the dissapointment is pretty bad. That being said, its allgoood .
P.S. I went to check rados myspace this morning and whoever is running that page, took down all the negative remarks people left as comments...

True but I'd rather not have to spend more money to get my late night fix
or maybe some sort of Ultra Dance conference merger (that usually happens end of March anyways).
UGH Noooooo....I mean I like the atmosphere of Langerado, and I LOVED Ultra, but the two should be separate. Keep Ultra what it is and keep Langerado what it is....a merger would make me really sad
i think im 'over it' but rado was really what was gonna get me thru winter...GRRR
You should just come to Ultra!
I'm really sad about this too, though. I was planning on going to both festivals this year, but I can't afford to go to Miami twice! Last year was SUCH a drain on my finances...and we even got our hotel for free.

i want to go to ultra but the whole point was that the camping festival really saves you money....with ultra it would be sooooooooooooooooo expensive...especially the way i'd want to do it. ah well... onward!

In the press release on the first page of this thread, the Langerado folks noted that the late night shows would be held at Miami venues.
My bad. I should have read more closely. That definitely makes it easier for people staying in Miami. But it is definitely an add on for the price as I would think the late nights would be $15 to $25 at least for entry.
And for people considering going to Ultra they should really think about doing some of the events of the Winter Music Conference (WMC). I'm not talking the panel discussions, but the day parties - usually at the South Beach hotel pools. A lot of these events are free or cheap, and they are great fun. Often they are label parties, so there are all sorts of vinyl, cd, and merch giveaways. IMO, the day parties are the highlight to WMC, which Ultra is like the big two day party that ends or begins the WMC. So if you are in town for Ultra, you might want to stay an extra day or two and check out some of the other WMC events.
yea this really sucks. Last year was my first Langerado and i was planning making it an annual thing...but this changes things. and yea i see the lineup being really mainstream to appeal to those spring breakers there the first week of march. apparently Langerado said that 75% of the lineup have never played Langs before. R.I.P. Langerado
Ahh .. So we are at least a month and a half from the line up release. Here is the first 'leak'.
comment #16, posted by Roger L. at 09/24 6:56pm (Reply to this comment) Lineup: Kings of Leon, Matt Costa, Jack Johnson, ALO, The KILLERS, The Roots, Dave Matthews (Band), Spoon, Ratatat, Vampire Weekend, Beirut, Death Cab, The Kooks, Raconteurs, Justice, Jose Gonzalez, Hot Chip, Manu Chao, Rodrigo and Gabriela, Whitest Boy Alive.
Too many holes for me but if both Justice & Manu Chao are there I would seriously consider it.
Oh it's B.S. The tip off for me is "Rodrigo and Gabriela" not Rodrigo Y Gabriela. I have this funny feeling though there is gonna be something in store for us. This is too weak.
EDIT: Oh and Beruit is on hiatus as well.

i am soooo freaking disappointed!!!! Camping is what made langerado so amazing last year, not to mention big cypress is an amazing place for a festival!
Me and my buddy convinced all of our friends to prepare for next years langerado... i doubt anyone will want to go now. I stay in enough hotel rooms every year, i want to freaking camp!
You know, I was really bent about this announcement a couple of weeks ago, b/c that's my birthday weekend and I LOVED having a camping fest. for my birthday. But then I found out today that Phish is playing a three day run in Virginia for my birthday weekend and now I don't give a crap about where Langerado is Here's hoping I get tickets...
I was really looking forward to this one. Even though it is closer now (I'm from Ft. Lauderdale), I probably save my money. But onto Echo. That has by far been the best festival I've been to the last couple of years.
I can understand people being disappointed by the move. But as for the lineup, look at ACL Fest and Lollapalooza. They're in large cities and always manage to have a pretty sweet lineup.
That said, I would be pretty bummed myself if Roo were to move from the farm to, say, a park in Nashville (though that wouldn't happen, seeing as how they already bought most of the farm ;D). Just not the same. It's nice to escape the city/reality for a couple days. So I can see how people would be really bummed about this

i'm still pissed off to hell. it's certainly for $$$. Even if it really was for day ticket goers, or because they couldn't get back in Big Cypress... there are plenty of amazing places for a big festival like that in florida! Shit, Ocala would have been even better!
that's it, I'm starting my own festival and doing it right! do i have any supporters?!?!
