hey... well it seems as bob dylan is touring right now, and i was wondering... do you bonna-experts think he'll show at 09??
i really hope so, because tickets to go see him in my area are really expensive.... and since i'll already be at bonna it would make things a lot easier.

I would like this.
I've heard from a number of people that Dylan concerts are pretty hit and miss. That's kind of discouraged me from paying 80-100 bucks to see him. There's few bands that I will pay those types of prices for, and I like to know that I should be seeing a good show for that money.
If he were at Bonnaroo, that would be perfect. That way if the show isn't great, I don't feel ripped off
I'd definitely like to be able to say I've seen the man, though. Finally crossing Neil Young off the list in a few weeks, it would be nice to do Dylan, too.

i love dylan but after seeing him last year it tarnished my view of him. maybe it was an off night, maybe i didnt dig his band, maybe it was a bad setlist but im not sure if i ever want to see him again. roo would be nice as you said ediger if its horrible you can see someone else.
rather have neil young at roo his tickets are even more expensive
I love Dylan, and would like to see him, but only if he played mostly older stuff. I just think past about 1980 most of his recordings are pretty sub-par
Edit: As for Young, I would kill to see him at Roo, with or without Crazy Horse. Any '03 vets? How was the show?

Please NO, Dylan is the worst live performer I have ever witnessed and I have seen him 4 times. I love Dylan and think he is one of the greatest songwriters but that does not mean his live performances are enjoyable. I initially thought I had caught one of his off night performances so I went to see him again and was even more dissapointed then the previous time. However I always give performers another chance to change my mind and the next two performances were intolerable. My basic feelings are everytime I saw him live was, does he actually know he's onstage performing in front of a crowd or is this the effects of doing too much corn for 50 years.

Your pretty on target with this. I've seen the man 5 times over the years. Each show 180 degree turn around over the last one. If one show was life changing the next was horrifying. The last time I saw him was 04' two days before Bonnaroo. The set was so bad I walked out. 7 songs and I feel like I had better things to do. We didn't even bother to see him at Roo. I have heard that since then his shows are great. Still not convinced enough to see him except in a festival setting where I don't have to be there if I don't wanna. I love Dylan. I do. And anytime you could see him and you have not ... Do it. But don't be shocked if it's not life altering.
I'm done with Dylan. Saw him at Roo 04 and was bored to sleep. Saw him at a club a month or so later and it was pretty enjoyable. Saw him about two months ago and was disgusted with his effort. His voice sounds like dry heaving, he doesn't acknowledge his crowd and his setlists are too deliberately obscure for my liking.
If there were nobody playing that I wanted to see and nobody playing that I had never seen I might check him out ... as long as I wasn't hungry, there was nobody performing in the comedy tent and there was basketball playing in the Cinema Tent.
I'll still be happy for those of you who want to see him at Roo, though. (As long as you don't choose him over somebody else you are interested in. Then I'd feel bad that you chose him.)
because every "classic" artist that I have seen has been extremely dissapointing. If dylan did in fact play, I wouldnt go see him and I would wear ear muffs if he was the headliner.

The only slot Dylan would make sense would be the Sunday night closer. He's too big to play before headliners now with his recent resurgence, and I'd prefer him play then then WSP play yet again.
I am a huge Dylan fan and even took a college course about him: "Bob Dylan and post-war literary America." However I have seen him once before live and he left much to be desired. It took me 3 songs to even figure out where he was on stage (could have been the corn's fault, or the fact that he was behind a keyboard). The setlist was completely obscure, and the songs I did know were played much differently than on the record. Now I know Dylan likes to mix things up but it didn't translate to the crowd. He would really have to bring it to 'roo for me to see him. He is a living legend but I'm not sure if he's "still got it."
