Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I was just looking at some Bonnaroo pics and thinking to myself, that it's just gotten too....much. I was kind of feeling that way before '08, but went anyway. I feel like it's lost a little of it's... je ne sais quoi...but you know, that community feel?
It's definitely gotten more commercial even since I started going a few years ago. Without doubt killer line-ups and tons to do, but it totally didn't give me the warm fuzzies this year like it had the previous years, and I don't think it's because of my mental state, b/c I love fests and have really enjoyed all of the others I've went to this year.
Not that I didn't enjoy bonnaroo this year, but at the end, I just felt *tired* and overstimulated, not refreshed like I usually do.

I whole-heartily agree.
It is no longer a community of like-minded music fans, but instead a random amalgamation of people, some of whom are good people, some of whom who are not.
It's definitely changed, even since '06. The weird food rules were terrible, even if they weren't always enforced. I was telling this girl about Roo, and how it's changed, and she said "oh, you're making me not want to go now...", but I still told her it'd be the most fun she had all year, as long as she was smart about it.
The one thing Bonnaroo still has, no matter how mainstream it gets, is that it's probably gonna be the biggest party of the year. As far as I'm concerned, that's a legitimate draw, and I still strongly encourage people who've never been there to go at least once.
But I ain't goin' back... ;D *
*Unless two of next year's headliners are Zeppelin and the Dead.

well. .. yeah. but its all about what your looking for. but i will say when youve experienced other festivals, that this becomes clearer and more obvious.
I mean no offense when I say this, but hasn't this been the exact same argument after every single Bonnaroo?? I also gotta agree with sparklybecca, she preaches the truth.
"Why when I was your age, Bonnaroo was a big tye-dyed, non-commercial love fest! Kittens and puppies romped under foot, all the corn was free, rainbows covered the sky and evil wookies didn't exist."
Sorry...I went to 'Roo right after it's inception, and I've been several years since. The major changes I've seen have been more people, better (or at least more diverse) line-ups, a bit more regulating as far as food vending goes and the festival just being better ORGANIZED in general. (i.e. people not having to sh*t on the ground because of overflowing ports-potties) This is also partly why prices have gone up, but i think it's a fair trade.
I think the "vibe" is just as great as it ever was...there is just a wider variety of vibes to partake in.
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "

I had the same feeling this year. I saw tons of great live music, but compared to the other festivals I went to, the vibe was decidedly different. For me, it's still worth attending, but with limited vacation time and funds, I'm not sure about going again next year.

I'm not trying to hate, I did say I had a good time, and I think there are tons of worthwhile reasons to go, other wise I wouldn't have gone for the past 3 years. I'm not even saying I won't go back, I'm just wondering if something has changed in the past few years.
I think it might just be that I've gone to some really awesome festivals in the past couple of years that changes what I want out of my fest experience, if that makes sense.
Overall, it's no big deal. If you want to go, go. If you don't want to go then don't. I just don't know why we have to sit around and complain about vibes and corporate festivals and such.

just to play devils advocate for a sec here, I have been to 04,05,06 and 07 in those 4 years I have seen a fairly drastic change in roo and in 07 I was kinda depressed by the vibe and deny it if u want but there was lack of community and a tad bit more hostility for lack of a better word in the air. And to see something that I had a lot of time, money and emotion invested in change so much and to finally realize it made me complain and I think thats the same for other people also. Personally now I have come to terms with it and don't care anymore and if the line up looks good to me this year I'll prob go if funds allow it but I think people who have don't have much festival exp and who have only been to roo 07 and 08, not to put down your opinions at all but you dont fully understand where we are coming from because you havent really experienced everything that a fest can and should be about.

Wow, what an asinine statement. Maybe people don't know what bonnaroo was like3 years ago but not "fests" or shows. I know people who have been going to show forever, followed the dead, and went to only 08 Bonnaroo.
Plus if you go in with a negative attitude or "I was one of the first so dont give me your opinion" You have pretty much made up your mind to not fully enjoy.

The bottom line for repeat Bonnaroo goers is that not every year can be the best year yet. Going into Bonnaroo (or anything) with an expectation of what it is going to be or what it should be like will eventually result in disapointment. It's inevitable. I've been every year and have had a few off years. In fact, my 2002 experience could be considered by some to be an off year. But I kept coming back because the music was good and my friends were going.
Every year somebody has an off year and comes here and insists there's been some major shift in the demographic and blames it on this act or these people in the crowd or that sponser and insists it will never be the same. Well I for one am glad. Bonnaroo should never be the same.

well, I meant only fest ever been to were roo 07,08 but I don't really get the first part of your post.
I don't see how you can deny that the vibe at roo has changed and become a lot less community oriented, and its not like I went with a negative attitude and maybe its just me but seeing people knock down gates and push and shove each other kinda puts a damper on things.

I can. I have been every year but the first. Every year I have been it has been great. Met some great people and heard some incredible music. Why in the world would a few people knocking down a gate and pushing (I'm assuming an event that lasted a few minutes) ruin your entire outlook on 4 days? I just don't get it.
