Gonna be a new rooer this year and Ive been reading up a bit. Ive seen stories of 15+ hours stuck in traffic. What would u say would be the best time to arrive so as to not get stuck in BFE and yet not wait 8 hours in traffic.
I know there's also a thread with the title 'how to avoid getting stuck in BFE', but for the life of me, I can't find it. Really, it all kind of depends on the luck of the draw. I'll tell you this, though - if you get there Wednesday night or very early Thursday, you can be sure you'll be far from Centeroo. It may seem quite random and haphazard where they direct you, but it's actually all very organized.

there is no best time........its just wherever they direct you.....we got put in camp solo i think....right next to the rasta dudes on pod 9....but the car right behind us got sent to the back by the woods
Yeah it's true, there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to where they sent us when we went in, the car infront of us were sent one way and us another.
Got in line at 10 am Thursday, got in our camping spots shortly after noon, Camp Jeff Spicolli, 5 minute walk (going around the side) or an 8 minute walk through the vending area.

I have found that getting there early Thursday works best for me. A reminder tho...make sure you have PLENTY of gas. Last year, the guys in front of us nearly ran out while waiting in line to get in. Also, do not be in a huge rush as it takes a little while to get settled.

Yeah, we got there super early last year and got stuck back in the middle of nowhere. My friends were even more out of shape than I was and it killed our stamina. If we go this year and get stuck that far away we're going to spend some serious cash on those taxis... worth it.
The taxis were definitely worth it. I jacked up my foot big time on Thursday and we were almost forced to use the taxis the rest of the weekend, but it was worth it. The fact that you got there in a quarter of the time and the whole way there you had a nice breeze... I'll pay $5 a trip for that.

I kept thinking about the taxis...$5 is not bad at all! I figured they would cost more. I know I almost got run over by them a billion times! They were outta control!
I would have gotten one friday night if I knew they were that cheap. I was in bad shape walking to the tent that morning.

And all of the drivers were funny/nice as can be. Most of the female drivers were quite cute as well.

off topic but funny story about the taxis that i have told here before. My wife has MS so we would grab a taxi from Access when her chair wasn't charged. One time the driver didn't know where to take us and ended up dropping us off around back of what and which stage at the artist area. We were stopped by security and told them what happened and that it was to far for my wife to walk back so they called someone to get us and we got to set for a while at the artist area. We seen BB King, Go Gol Bordello and their funky bunch, Eddie Vedder, Jack Johnson and Money Mark. We couldn't talk to anyone but it was great to see them walk by and just set casually around near them. It was the greatest mistake anyone. ever made.

How far back do these taxi's start? Is it harder to get them at a certain time? I've been paying VIP all this time thinking there is no other options but walking!

Get to Wal Mart Wednesday night. sleep there. leave the parking lot at like 7ish in the morning and you'll get in plenty early. Granted......you may end up far away from centeroo - but for me last year - doing this got me like 15 minute walk away from the center. it's all random.

I was let in at 3 in the morning last year.
Ended up in BFE. 30 min walk. But nice and quiet if I needed a snooze. I didn't mind the walk because I would pack up everything I needed leave around 11 AM in the morning and stay in Centeroo the whole day, except when I decided to walk thru campsites.

arrived at Walmart in Manchester around 4:00pm Wednesday last year. Word started to spread about 8pm that they were letting people in Wed. night so we went over and were i by 9:30. Plan on doing the same this year as far as arrival.

in 05 i think we got there (to our camp spot) around 4 or 5 pm on thur. didn't have to wait in line much longer than an hr. in 07 we stayed with friends in chattanooga and i'm thinking we probably got in the traffic line about 11 am and we were in line for hours before we finally got to our camping spot. also when we got there later we got a better camping spot. trust me, being further away is not bad if you are near trees. you greatly appreciate the shade. we were really miserable in 07 in the middle of the field in the sun.
