im a totally uninspired professional student. english major. I work at a steakhouse, and also at a cool mexican place/ burrito bar. look for us at mountain jam! In the warmer months, i help run the family business, an organic vegetable farm, and I do whatever festival vending/attending i can. i consider that a job. i really want to go to school for permaculture, plans are in the works
I'm a speech-language pathologist (speech therapist) at a very low socio-economic school system in Northeast Arkansas. Since the pay at the school is not so great, I also see kids privately for therapy after school.
The kids I work with are sweet and keep me laughing during the day. One of the kids I see has autism and refuses to call me Melissa, he calls me "ASS." Every morning he runs at me with a big hug and says "Hi Ass!" Right now I just laugh and go with it because he is just starting to talk.
I have another one that is non-verbal but is a genious on a communication board. It is really awesome to see what these kids can do.
I also love to see the progress these kids make and how happy it makes them and their families. It is very rewarding.
Yes! Same here-I teach kids with LD (various) and Aspergers-high on spectrum-very quirky-You never know whats gonna come out of their mouths-No day is ever the same-Id like to write a book of anecdotes
Karma to ya SLP! A friend and I have both been taking notes for a book on the crazy/funny things the kids say!
I'm an engineer who designs interior cabinetry and shell components for a major corporate jet manufacturer. You may have heard of us in the news lately thanks to the Obama administration pressuring one of our customers, a large financial company now on the taxpayers' payroll, to cancel their order today.
I actually work really closely with a company that does this on the commercial level...interesting.
Im the project engineer at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. Im second in command at the Center for applied Research in Engineering and Science. We do alot of technical training for the industry but also serve as a technology bridge from the university to the industry. I operate the rapid prototyping and reverse engineering labs as well as handle all projects brought into the university through the center. Im totally not getting paid what I deserve espeically knowing that if I left they would be completely screwed
I'm an actuarial analyst. Basically a financial analyst for a Life Insurance company...
That's cool. I was looking into going into the actuarial field because I love statistics but I had too much trouble with all the abstract math courses my college was making me take. So I switched to the economics program.

Tell me about it. I'm taking the first part of the exam (there are 4 or 5) Friday. It turns out I don't remember much calculus. I;m in serious cram mode until next Friday.

Being an EMT is awesome though. I know it's hard work and I really admire what you guys do!

Haha, I'm only 6 months in, so im sure there will be plenty more to come. You're too sweet.
I am also a firefighter. For the last 8 1/2 years it seems I have not worked a single day because it is so much fun. Currently I am a Lieutenant in an Engine Company and I am also cross trained as a paramedic. Only downside is at the 'Roo I have to literally 'stay out of the sm@ke' and stick to the beers. ha!
I basically take care of kids at an afterschool program at the elementary school down the street. I get payed to play basketball, Guitar Hero, Tag, Kickball and other things you miss from childhood. It pretty much rules...
I'm a personnel analyst for a management consulting firm. In a nut shell, we write, administer, and score entry level and promotional tests for police and fire departments around the country. So props to you firemen! I enjoy the testing aspect of my job. But I I don't enjoy my main project which is doing job analyses for state jobs and writing up job descriptions on them. It's difficult to write job descriptions for people who don't work.
I have a B.A. in Political Science and would love to go back for a Master's in that or Sociology, but I don't want to pay for it. I've recently considered being a survey researcher...or finding a job where I can surf the internet all day.
