I'm only halfway through it, so I can't fully answer that. I'm probably going to need a few more listens to let it fully sink in.
I guess it depends on what standards you're judging it by. If you're going by the expectations built up after a decade and a half, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. If you forget all the hype/legend surrounding the album, you'll probably be pleased.
This GNR feels like a different animal, for sure. I don't know if I'll go quite as far as calling it GNR2.0. It's still definitely an Axl Rose project, you can tell that much... but I can definitely sense the lack of Slash & Izzy's influence. It doesn't have that "kicking a dead horse" feel of, say, that last Smashing Pumpkins album.
And for some strange reason, weezer gets a shout-out in the liner note thank-yous. I can understand Metallica, Papa Roach, Suicide Girls and others in that vein... but weezer? Surely, that's got to be because of Suzanne.

I just noticed that I misspelled "hear" in the poll question.
Also, Dr Pepper said that they would give every one in America a free Dr. Pepper if Axle actually came out with the album this year. I you co to drpepper.com tonight and tonight only, you can get a certificate that is good for one free Dr. Pepper.
All I've heard was one song on the radio. It was about what I expected. I was a GnR fan back in the day, but this is an Axl solo album. I'm curious about hearing the rest, but I'm not going to buy it.
I really can't stand Axle. His voice sounds like a cat being tortured to me. And his ego is just short of Kanye.
I disagree.
Axl's ego > Kanye's ego
Superfly booked Kanye as a headliner at Bonnaroo, and he merely showed up late and put on a crappy show without apologizing.
Get Axl to headline at Bonnaroo, and you'll see that extra ego. The wait would be just as long as it was for Kanye before it was canceled outright. The cause would be something far more minor/particular than stage set-up; something like Axl's masseuse wasn't left-handed as he requested. And it would end in a backstage rampage with lots of screaming and breaking stuff, not a delayed but unapologetically poor performance.
Then again, maybe I'm just still pissed because GNR fucking canceled on me when I had tix to see them a couple years ago...
I hate to admit it but I have it. For one I grew up a GnR fan and lets face it. Tommy Stinson plays bass for the majority of the album. I got a soft spot for that little bastard.
Yeah, Tommy Stinson is on every track, I think. I was also surprise at how much Buckethead there was -- pretty much on every song (along with three or four other guitarists).
I picked it up on Sunday and I'm still developing my opinion about it. It is a much more mature production than what the preceeding albums and it's (thankfully) not as over-produced feeling as the Illusion albums. (Although I know that it is has been ten+ years longer in production.)
It's not a disc I'll be singing along to anytime in the near future, it's just not that kind of production. I'm curious to see where he/they go from here, musically.
Apparently the reunited line up rumours are swirling again. I don't know how that affects the speed of the next cd but it would make for a more interesting live performance.
Scott Weiland quit Velvet Revolver to reunite STP, and the band wants out of their record contract. Speculation is to be expected under those circumstances.
I'm for an old GNR reunion... I just hope they don't forget to invite Izzy Stradlin back into the fold too.
Izzy has played with New Guns a couple of times, from what I remember. (I think at some of their NYC shows.) He was really the one that kept them grounded, I think.
I'm pretty sure that the worst blood was betwen Axl and Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke and I really don't care for them too much anyways. Bring back Izzy and I don't really care who's on drums. Hopefully not Steven Adler, either. I remember one of my old bootlegs had a "drum solo" on them that was basicly him on the toms -- it sounded like the theme to Miami Vice. Just Awful.
