yeah well i promised myself if they got back together i'd go to as many shows as possible and i really tried to go to a lot more than that but that's all i could manage with the whole ticketing issues and the cost and whatnot. it was kind of like if i got tix to deer creek or alpine or jones beach i wouldn't be going to bonnaroo but im very happy that i'll be on the farm. those shows are gonna be the best of the tour. so i wouldn't have anything to worry about. the vibe and people and surroundings of roo are gonna bring a whole new kind of energy to phish. call it a hunch. but i think those shows will stand out from the whole tour.

Definitely agreed. I had this exact conversation with a gentleman I delivered to earlier tonight. Trey and the boys know 'Roo is the place to be on this tour, no way it will be anything short of utter, unforgettable greatness. That's why I opted for 'Roo, well that I just found out about the reunion like last week, maybe week before last.

I've heard on multiple occasions it was a spinoff on Fishman's name because he was the only decent musician in the band when they started.
Around 1985, the members of the band came up with the name Phish, when horsing around with Jon Fishman’s last name. It stuck and that became the name of the band. After the name was established, the band started to get more and more gigs

ummm, Phish has been "Phish" since 1983. Page joined the band in 1985, maybe that is what you are thinking of?
But they have been Phish since 1983.
from the phish.net:
"we'd met and started jamming together. We knew about two songs. Jeff [Holdsworth, a previous guitarist who left after he was "born-again"] knew someone who wanted us to play at this ROTC Christmas jormal dance -- black tie. We decided to do it, but we didn't have enough songs for a whole evening. We didn't have mike stands, just hockey sticks with mikes duct-tapes to a table. No name, nothing. "Phish" just kind of got thrown in there because of Fish's name. Anyway, we went to the gig with about 35 cover song, like "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress," "Heard it through the grapevine," stuff like that. They hated us. [Michael Jackson's] Thriller had just been released; they cranked it up on the turntable, and we couldn't compete. So we selected the name for that gig, and it just stuck."
FWIW, the show talked about here happened on 12/2/83
I don't really have favorite Phish songs. I pretty much like everything. It is less about what they are playing for me, and more about HOW they are playing it.
But if Pressed to answer the question, I would say that my favorite songs is Punch You In The Eye. It encompasses everything I love about Phish in one song.

lol nitpick much? 83 is around 85 imo, but thanks for the clarification.

hmmm. intriguing. please do go on. why does this song encompass everything about Phish?
oh and new question. i was thinking about it today. what are some of Phish's more rare songs you guys would like to hear? just to name a few for me:
Camel Walk Big Ball Jam Purple Rain Alumni Blues A Letter To Jimmy Page Free Bird (acapella) Timber Ho Buffalo Bill Big Black Furry Creatures From Mars Life On Mars Crosseyed And Painless (would be sick to see David Byrne step in for lyrics) Cities (same as above)

yeah i was thinking about it and i know it didn't really work out like they had originally thought but what better of a place to give it another go around. i don't think it would be to out there of a prediction to say they could play this. i mean they're gonna pull out all the stops at roo. why not do something that everyone could totally get into. oh and you know there bringing back the trampolines. they've got to right?

They did it Knoxville, and Murfreesboro 96 pretty funny stuff.
I'm probably one of the few phans who would rather they kept the trampolines at home for the rest of their career as a band.
watching a couple of guys in their mid 40's jump up and down on a trampoline is a little ridiculous to me. It worked when they were younger. They should focus primarily on music, leave the gimmicks in he past.
like I said, I'm probably in the minority on that one.
