11-08rehearsalTrusted sources close to the Phish organization have reported that the band has been playing amazingly well in preparation for Hampton. People who have talked with the band have said they the band is incredibly psyched and wish Hampton was tomorrow. Others who have heard the rehearsals have been floored by what’s been going down. Take it for what its worth, but this is not made up. Two more weeks!
Lotta that rehearsal stuff is coming by way of PT.
I'm just glad they ARE rehearsing. They didn't before the post-hiatus shows and it showed. They could still jam but lost the tightness on the composed stuff.
Just out of curiousity...how many people around here actually got a chance to see Phish back in "the day"? I was wondering how many new fans they had picked up since going on hiatus.
first time -1987 last time -12-31-03 times in between - 60 or 70 best times - 1994-96 longest tour - 2000 fall from Bonnersprings > Shoreline (10 shows)- wanted to see them off in style wasn't sure if i would ever see them again.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

First show was in 98, crammed in about 65 shows before the hiatus, and saw a few post-hiatus.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

Last night, I heard that their longtime FOH soundman was not going to tour with them. This was on Sirius Sat Radio, around 10 ET.
What is the effect? I saw comments about the lighting designer being an critical member of the team. What is the reputation of the soundman?
As someone who has done this work for local and even touring bands, I know how important this can be. Does not matter how good the musicians are on stage, if the sound mix is not right, the crowd suffers.
I actually liked monitors myself more than FOH. But as FOH, it is wonderful when you can get the entire crowd dancing to the music, just the right blend is required.
Most difficult to amplify - a sitar. Fun artist: JJ Cale. Worst: probably the Feminist Alliance - I have a certain part of my anatomy that made me a horrible creature.
Looking forward to seeing Phish for the first time. Bonnaroo has been good to see people I never got a chance to see before.
Ahh tapes the other thing about tapes vs CD's is that not listening to the whole thing is a pain in the butt. It is sometimes hard to appreciate a whole piece of music when you can just hit next every time you get bored.

Oh it's the Juggernaut B*tch, keep 'em coming. Nothing like reading the ramblings of someone deep in the chasm of opiate euphoria.
EDIT: Where are my manners? My condolences that you had to go under the knife. I'm glad that you are recovering well. Get to feeling better. Find me on the Farm, I'll buy you a beer.
Languedoc isn't touring with Phish? That's odd...I had heard rumors about Kuroda not coming back, but not having Paul there is weird.
In anticipation of Phish being back, I've been going through my old tape collection (that's right...tapes! Maxell XL IIs! Tons of them!), and I totally forgot how many great old shows I have on here.
I actually miss the days of tape trading. The ease with which we get shows now is almost frustratiing - it's so instant, that the anticipation doesn't exist. Nowadays, people on Inforoo lose their collective minds when a show from Bonnaroo isn't up 3 days after the fest ends. Back in "the day", over on RMP, there was a general "two-week" rule: that is, you had to wait at least two weeks before even requesting copies of a particular show. Then once that barrier had been breached, you still needed to find someone who had it, set up a trade or a B&P, wait for the tapes to come....but there was nothing more exciting than coming home, seeing the oversized padded envelope in your mailbox, and tearing it open to listen to some fresh tunes.
By the way, I'm totally rambling, but I'm fairly high off of painkillers (note to mods: it's legal, I just two days ago had major reconstructive surgery), so I'm just kind of out to lunch.
to quote a classic "ramble on" i completely hear ya man. now granted, im only 18 so i know i cant say i was there but that doesnt mean i cant grasp the concept and wish it were around. i think the digital age has cheapened music and made it less of an art than it used to be. i guess you could say that for the music business period but the digitality(i know..) of everything has certainly been a catalyst for that
