Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Ive also seen more Phish coverage in RS than i have Pitchfork, Paste, or any other 'zines you can find down south.
Since we're praising RS i'll mention that they had a great little article about the hamptons run and also have a yearly coverage of summer festivals. I've read really great articles about the ticketmaster/phish/bruce problems as well as found out a lot about new artists. I heard about MGMT and Brett Dennen from their "Artists to Watch" article and enjoy most of the stuff I see.
I'm still a little sad about it becoming a standard size magazine though. I loved the big ones.
were you 12 years old at your first phish show? if so - cool
13, actually. Right around the start of my freshman year of HS.
And I have two issues with Rolling Stone - first, they started covering celebrity gossip-type nonsense in the first dozen or so pages of the magazine, they did things like put "The Hills" and the Jonas Brothers on the cover, and their political coverage got way too slanted for me. They've always been liberal, but in the last election cycle it was nothing but pro-Obama, anti-Repubs. That's the way I go too, but I would have liked to see some honest reporting on all sides, you know?
^^completely agree with you about RS...the Phish coverage was good though and the summer festival guide. Its usually hit or miss each issue

ahhhh.....it's so refreshing to have disagreements but with actual valid points. too many times people online will say something sucks and not give reasons.......or give bullshit reasons.
all of your problems with Rolling Stone are 100% valid. I usually skip the political article......I used to check it out but now it does seems too slanted. And they have covered gossip celeb stuff that is kinda pointless.
You should check out Rollingstone.com every now and then though. It's free and you can still get some great info
Great setlist for Fenway last night. Having never seen Phish they played alot of songs that I would love to see at Roo. Ive been listening to the boot and I like what im hearing, I love the Limb by Limb and Down With Disease. Ocelot is a nice catchy new tune. Haven't listened to the second set yet but it looks pretty sweet on paper.

I personally love Rolling Stone for one reason......Matt Taibbi. Very liberal but he puts it all out there, which is what I like. I agree that some of the covers are ridiculous but they are relevant to pop culture. I remember seeing the cover with the "Gossip Girls" on it and I was totally lost. I still don't know who they are. The majority of the articles are excellent. I've subscribed for years.

Haha. Not at all, I'm not even gonna be at Phish on friday. I thought he was like my age or something and was going through some teenage angst, but to find out he's probably a grown man who spends his life on a forum insulting people? That's just not right to me, you know? Pretty much every post I see him post something negative or insulting, it's just ridiculous.
Who the f*ck do I insult? I get on people's cases who make stupid, inaccurate, or ignorant points. I've never hassled anyone for no reason, don't hassle anyone who's being reasonable and decent, post loads of shows from my archive for people to download, offer help when I can...grow up.
Oh, and I have loads of time to post because a) I've been in law school for the past 3 years, and thus spent all my time in front of my laptop, and b) am now studying for the bar, which is pretty much the dullest thing ever.
Now, if I was some poor internet troll making pointless "hippies suck" comments, then you've got a point.
And what was your problem here? I was making a POSITIVE point by comparing last night's shows to vintage (read: good) mid-to-late-90's Phish.
Oh, and I'm 5 years older than you, if that matters.
I thought you kind of sounded like a plaintiffs attorney

Maybe Phish will play a new song or two a night and get them all out and then the people who go to bonnaroo get a copy of the CD a month early???? Well that wouldn’t work because no one would actually buy it when it was released in July....or they play one or two songs a night till bonnaroo, then they play the whole album in its entirety on Friday, but then once again that’s the whole album released before the July release date.

it was hard to get into it at the show because no one knew what it was and a lot of people started to talk during it, which was annoying. i hate when people around me are talking its so distracting
I agree about the crowd not really getting into Ocelot. I think I may have taken a leak during it because I don't really remember it. But after listening to it again, its good tune and I think the more people are familiar with it the more they'll groove. The crowd just didn't know it. They were a bit more into TTE because they've already given it a couple of listens.

eh even during time turns elastic the crowd felt a little deflated until the end. it seemed like a lot of people werent expecting to hear anything new and when something came on they didnt know they stopped paying attention.
i did feel like a total noob when this kid was running around yelling about "destiny unbound! the best version of the song they never play" and i had no idea what he was talking about.

Don't feel so bad Candy "All good things in all good time".......sorry was just listening to Run for the Roses and the line seemed to fit for ya bro. I definately caught this tune once or twice back in '91 i think, its ok, can't say i was shedding a tear when it was stricken from the setlist for many years.
I understand how you feel being new to Phish and before you have even had the chance to see them you are enamored with them. So what you don't know every obscure tune and each and every bit of folklore that is involved with the band. Go have a great time, dance your ass off and smile and grin. Hope to meet you at the brunch and catch a set or two with ya brother
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

oh believe me i dont feel bad, it actually gets me more excited. i love to see people more excited about them than i am, because sometimes it doesnt feel like anyone gives a fuck haha. i was just on PT and reading all the critical things said on there which also get me more excited. its great that people are so obsessed that immediately after the show they go online and talk about how trey messed up at the beginning of tweeprise or whatever they didnt like (stash, dwd, david bowie, sample in a jar, everything they played that wasnt destiny unbound or curtis lowe haha) people being that worked up over Phish is fucking great.
This is more like Phish than the Hampton run is, for sure. A more song filled first set: 13 songs, longest one around 11-12 minutes, ending with Character Zero (ugh. not again.), and a jammier second set: 8 songs, two longer jams (TTE at 17, YEM at 22), with 3 other songs around 12 minutes. After this, I really think what we saw at Hampton really was a public dress rehearsal - just a tuning up on the structure of songs. The show last night followed the trend of most of the shows I saw between 96-00, for sure.
But still...f*ckin' Character Zero as the set closer? Still? I was hoping they'd get past some old trends.
hey Jugg once again I am in total agreeance with you. and hell lets face it its not really our opinion it is pretty much a fact as to the set structure (which is what I'd expected , 'roo will likely be different) and I also have to 'wince' at the Zero closer. It has never been a song I cared for to begin with (yes, the jam usually rocks but otherwise...for me, trivial) Hoping not to get Zero at 'roo, one can wish anyway. Your only 25 Jugg? A lawyer eh? I'm not surprised.

I'm pretty much a Phish noob too, although I was a casual fan in the early days. I had a couple cd's, but I never saw them live and never really got that into them. I'm going to the shows expecting to enjoy them but, not expecting to be blown away. I'm not saying it won't happen, I'm just saying I'm not expecting it.
thinking about it, i wouldnt mind if they played like all new stuff. i really have heard all the old songs like 70 billion times. it would suck for the (even more so than me) n00bs though.
New songs are fine with me, as long as they play them at the right times. I just hate it when the energy gets pumped up and then they play a new song(first time ever). You gotta ease that sh!t in IMO. They can play Ocelot anytime as far as I'm concerned. I'm loving that.

I do think the second set is better than the first, but this show actually sounds quite a bit like the Hampton shows to me in terms of style. The Tweezer is actually on the short side and the jams all seem very controlled and safe. The best moments are the funkier ones, but I don't think they have really done anything too exploratory yet. Looking forward to it. Its a good YEM. I like both Light and TTE (probably my fave jam of the show) in this setlist, although both would benefit if you just removed some of the cheesier lines.
Zero has never been a fave of mine either. Always seems miscast as the big set closer.

everyone says the second set was better than the first. i would agree but more because of the rotation of the earth than anything haha. it was times perfectly so that they finished the first set with the sun up and came out for the second and the sky was dark, setting the mood for the second set. first set was still good, but it was in the light.
