Regular GA tickets are the base price (currently $224.50, going up to $249.50) plus $23.10 in fees. This comes to between $247.60 and $272.60.
Now, the payment plan is 5 payments of $50.00 ($250.00) plus the fees of $28.90 giving a total of $278.90. Is this extra cost just the $5 payment plan fee? If so, that seems reasonable but I want to make sure I understand this right.
It seems like the VIP one is even more and I don't understand why.
VIP tickets price $1,349.50 + $72.65 fees = $1422.15 total for a pair
VIP payment plan 5 payments of $285.00 = $1425.00 Add the fees of $76.05 and you're at $1501.05.

This is on the website regarding general admission:
Payment Plan Schedule* Payment 1 $90.90 including all fees DATE OF PURCHASE Payment 2 $50.00 Tuesday, February10 Payment 3 $50.00 Tuesday, March 3, Payment 4 $50.00 Tuesday, April 7 Payment 5 $50.00 Tuesday, May 5, 2009
That all equals $290.00, which seems way too much to me. I really don't see where I have much of a choice though unless I wait until the last minute....and I am too scared they will sell out to do that.

This is what we are doing - it's the only way we could do it and manage to get the tickets with Christmas being next week
^^ Good, I won't be the only one hurting from the extra charge. I have someone to suffer with.
I have to wait until my next payday though, which is the 30th...just in time to get on the payment plan. you can do it until the 31st, right? I'm pretty sure I read that about a 100 times.

yup - and nope - you will not be the only one that is having to deal with the extra charge - but it is worth it for us - this way we definately get to go and it helps to not have to come up with all that money at one time.
If you can't pay for it right now, it almost seems like you could charge it to a lower interest credit card and intentionally accumulate finance charges and those would still be less than the extra you're paying for the finance plan.

It is silly but then there are those of us that don't believe in credit cards - I don't have one - I have a debit mastercard - so if I don't have the money right then - I don't need whatever it is I am trying to buy - this way - with the payment plan - i can buy tickets and make payments.

I don't have a credit card either. I gave them up after I maxed mine out and cut it up several years back.
