Naps.Naps.Naps. My wife found out the hard way this year. You have to nap in order to stay up. It used to be the headliners for me ... 5 years and I could only think of 4 headliners that were must see. Now I just sleep whenever I can.

-drink lots of water throughout the day, keep alcohol to a bare minimum
-eat carbs (nuts&berries/granola, etc.), anything that gives you long term energy. you don't want soda or anything that gives you short term energy but then makes you crash.
-I know that my friends Lucy and Molly, if they are with me, always have a way to keep me awake.
-keep the dancing to a minimum until nightfall, by then you have saved energy and you will also get some adrenalin pumping

camp in tent only so you can go back to camp and crash when you want, makes life easier...also skip non-essentials, like metallica and go see MMJ instead!!
I think everything has been said already but something that really helped me out last year was inbetween sets or whenever I had some downtime I would chill in the cinema tent. Really a nice place to relax and chill out for awhile (even tho it sucks they wont let you sleep in there.)
I am writing in need of advice. This will be my fourth roo and I always make the same mistakes. I hit the ground running on Thursday, party stay up late. Get up on Friday, go to shows then around midnight on friday i hit my wall. I go back to the tent and miss awesome tunes.
I am then well rested for saturday/sunday (for example, last year I watched Pearl Jam from very close to the rail, then saw Sigur Ros, then Kanye).
I am wondering if anyone has advise, for those who enjoy to 'have fun' (take that as you will), how do you rally to stay up late every night of the ROO?
Also, i don't like red bull/coffee. That is just helpful background info.
I do the same thing im not over doing it this year ..at least thats what i hope
I spend half my life happily sleeping, and if I'm not sleeping, I'm napping. Therefore, I have no interest in sleeping at The Roo. Too much good music to be heard adn fun to be had. I generally take it easy on Thursday, but from then on, I'm going until Sunday night. I try to eat well, drink lots of water (I stay away from alcohol, so that helps) and when needed, some various and sundry aids to help me stay awake for the late night sets.
I had no trouble staying awake for the latenight sets. I went to sleep at sunrise everyday except I think I went to bed around 4:30 Thursday night. I was usually awake by 10. I guess it is because I live in Louisiana and our downtown bars stay open til 6:00 AM so when I do go out I am used to staying out til the sun comes up.....I don't really do this a lot these days but I used to all the time.
Never under estimate the power of a good nap! If you are at a chill set, nap (you can nap and listen at the same time). I always try to schedule in a real at camp nap around 5 or 6, or during the headliners. But if you do this set and alarm. Being in the sun all day will wear you out, so it's easy to accidently sleep through all the night action if you don't set an alarm.

Drink LOTS of water.
Protein...You probably dont get enough of it at Bonnaroo, but it's what gives you energy!
Nap during the day, lay out at a show and rest...the more you do this, the more energy you have. In 2006, I was waiting at the Which Stage between Bright Eyes and Death Cab, and I was close to the front. Not wanting to lose my spot, I sat down, put my backpack on my lap and fell asleep. Not a soul bothered me and I woke up right in time for the show, with plenty of energy. You really can nap anywhere in Centeroo...

Constant beer and such from 10AM-5AM each day, a few well placed snacks... (plus lots of water etc) ... I've never missed a latenight, and I've never taken a nap... I swear, the Farm gives me SUPERPOWERS!

I met a Bonnaroo vendor at Beale Street Music Festival before I went to my first Roo in 07 and she told me to start taking a B12 vitamin everyday and double up before Roo. It helped me find energy when I though I was going down. I also alternate 1 beer then 1 water.
I've never napped at Roo. It is hard for me to sleep with the sun and humidity during the day. I might try the Cinema Tent idea this year though! Yay for a bit of air conditioning.
for the first 2 bonnaroos i slept/ "semi-slept" for the headliners(i just dont like dmb) and re energized myself for the latenights and i usually ended up staying up till sunrise. last year i banged my head too much friday night and into saturday morning that i was physically unable to make it sat late night (menatalyy i was awake).
i either suggest psyachadelics(CACTUS), amphetamines, red bull, coffee, sobe energy, or sleep.....never tried x-hr energy it might work too, adderol or some othe rtype of pharmy
It has been said but...I picked up naps throughout the day, and I also snuck in a quick one a right before the late nights began...that kept me going throughout.
My biggest problems was actually staying awake on the drive back. On the ride home we switched driving every 30 minutes until the sun came back up...

Get good sleep Thursday. We drove 20 hours from Boston, got there at like 4 am. set up camp. This is where I should have slept. However, being my first 'Roo i got a little too excited. We cracked some beers, and me and my neighbors decided we'd do the first thing we got our hands on. We each got a healthy dose* of 'Roo spirit at around 9 am. I was pretty much out of it till the afternoon. Raged Thursday night. Slept like 3 hourss. Raged Friday night till dawn. Saturday, I was a heap of deadweight for the middle 2 hours of Pearl Jam, came to for the encore, stumbled back to camp and missed Phil Lesh who I really wanted to see.
I guess my point is try to pace yourself, and try to be as well rested going into thursday evening as possible. Only beer +grass till the music starts
Most of what I was going to say has been said, but I will reiterate. Go to sleep on Thursday after the bands are done. With all that driving, you need the sleep. Always have plenty of water and Gatorade/Powerade on you at all times for hydration. For me, I made a shiatload of pb + j sandwiches and carried them with me. Those will always keep you energized and you won't have to spend so much money on festival food. (HINT, check out the one dollar garlic grilled cheese stand, they are a life saver!)
If you aren't too keen on a headliner, that is the prime time to go to camp and sleep for late-night. And if you get to a late-night show early and are just waiting. Sleep some more. I did this, this past Roo for Sigur Ros and I was up until 4:30 in the morning.
Finally, if needed have energy drinks, caffeine pills, 5 Hour Energy Drinks handy. They can also be handy for late-nite.
