Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I am writing in need of advice. This will be my fourth roo and I always make the same mistakes. I hit the ground running on Thursday, party stay up late. Get up on Friday, go to shows then around midnight on friday i hit my wall. I go back to the tent and miss awesome tunes.
I am then well rested for saturday/sunday (for example, last year I watched Pearl Jam from very close to the rail, then saw Sigur Ros, then Kanye).
I am wondering if anyone has advise, for those who enjoy to 'have fun' (take that as you will), how do you rally to stay up late every night of the ROO?
Also, i don't like red bull/coffee. That is just helpful background info.
I wish I could help you, but as long as there is music, I can stay awake. I love it. On Saturday this year, I was smoking and drinking beer all day (hey, I had to sample as many as possible. It's not my fault it takes me 3 beers to really get a feel for it ). Usually, that's a recipe for a early night for me, but somehow I was able to keep on keepin on until about 5am.
Then again, my uncles have warned me, as soon as I hit 25, the nights will get a little tougher and the hangovers will get a little rougher . At least I have a few years until I have to test their theories.

staying well hydrated is key to saving energy. If possible, drink vitamin water or powerade or the like as well on top of water. If you don't like a headliner, take the chance to go back to camp or find a cozy spot in Centeroo and just sit down with friends and relax.
In 07 I left Roanoke at midnight on Wednesday and drove through the night to get in line, and managed to stay up for everything except the Whigs on Thursday (damnit! ) and rest of the weekend was easy for me to stay up all night, even though I was only getting 3 or 4 hrs of sleep a night at best. But then again, not sleeping is pretty natural for me...
It really just comes down to knowing your limits and how much your body can take before you, say pass out into a coma in a chair while Dark Star is melting faces on stage infront of you. I definitely don't know anything about that

Strum's advice is definitely sound advice. In addition to staying hydrated, make sure you eat something to keep up your energy.
I don't know about you, but between the party and the music I have a hard time getting an appetite (which is surprising, considering I'm constantly stuffing my face at home). At this year's Bonnaroo, I barely ate anything, and by the time Sunday rolled around I was a zombie. I ate some Chinese and started slowly regaining some energy on Sunday afternoon.
Beyond that, I would definitely recommend taking it easy on Thursday night. That's where I made a mistake this year; I partied way too hard on Thursday.
Friday I was fine for the throw down, but once Saturday rolled around I couldn't hang. Fell asleep sprawled out in the grass during Pearl Jam (along with three other people, all using each other as pillows, it was pretty amusing).
After Pearl Jam, I wandered back to camp and never made it back to Centeroo until Sunday afternoon.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
I actually didn't nap at all last year, which is amazing given the amount of time I usually sleep each night. I guess I was too scared of sleeping through a "can't miss" set. Also, remember you don't have to be at a show every time there's a show going on. The music doesn't stop until after 4am, with the exception of Sunday night, there's no way you'll be able to catch absolutely everything.
Strum gave some good advice. Don't drink too much during the day - the heat really wears you out, and everyone knows late nights are the best part of Bonnaroo. If you do drink during the day, I recommend sticking to beer only until the sun goes down. Remember to not only stay hydrated, but to keep replacing your electrolytes with Gatorade. If you need to cool down quickly, head to the mushroom fountain.
There aren't that many good shady spots on the farm - a few trees here and there, but if you really need some shade or a relatively quiet place to pass out for an hour, try the cinema tent. It's also just about the only air-conditioned public place on the farm, which is a major bonus. Next year, I think I'll bring one of those small battery operated alarm clocks just to be safe.
Oh, one more thing - if you don't like coffee or Red Bull, then I would definitely echo the suggestion of 5 hour energy. You can pick it up at most major drug stores.

I don't know what some of you guys are talking about...
Balls to the wall !!!
If you do Bonnaroo right you shouldn't sleep more than 4 or 5 hours a night anyhow.
But What Stage is the perfect place to sneak in a nap. Bring a bed sheet with you and lay down for a few hours during a more laid-back show. Find some shade when you can and the sun won't drain you. Acquire some fungus or some pharmaceutical grade amphetamines that you have obtained legally from a doctor (Adderl, Ritalan, etc). Avoid eating late meals that are heavy. Mix a bottle of water into your drinking regiment to offset dehydration. Chill out for a few shows during the day - there is a huge difference in the amount of energy you will expend between sitting/laying down and standing for two hours. Save your energy for shows you must be up and dancing for. Arrive at the farm well rested if you can - I know this isn't possible for everyone considering some people have 10+ hour drives to Manchester. If you can I recommended arriving in Manchester on Wednesday and sleeping at the state park that is about 10 minutes from the farm - Its nice to wake up with a good nights sleep and basically already be in line when you pull out from the park Thursday morning. Push your mind and body to the limit for 4 days and sleep when you get home.
Thanks for all the responses. I think the key is to not get too crazy on Thursday and not to get too crazy during the day on friday-- well, i guess we will see what the set times look like. In 07, Sunday so was so hot, I don't know how anyone got through it. I loved the 08 weather-- much better than dry 06. see you all on the farm!

The weather last year was amazing. On Friday it was so overcast - the sun was kept in check - very nice... Sunday's heat/sun was brutal - I managed to get up in the front of What Stage (behind the barrier) for Yonder - the stage itself provided shade - that was nice.

Last year I found a schedule that was a blast. I sleep all day or at least try to. Start partying around six in the evening and stay up till sunrise. It seems like that is when the real bonnaroo vibe is happening.

Get as much sleep as possible Thursday and sunday night, stay hydrated, eat grilled cheese and pizza all weekend. Watch music. I dont hardly sleep at all after Thursday night, and I almost fell asleep that night in the comedy tent, but Galaifianakis woke my ass up with funnyness. Even after walking back after Kanye, I got only 3hours of sleep. I just skip sleep for th weekend. THere is no way in hell I am missing good late night sets.
every year i tend to make the same mistake of partying way to hard on friday night to be totally wiped on saturday and just really too exhausted by saturday late nights. FLips in 07 and Sigur Ros in 08 had the common factor of me fighting the urge to sit/lay down to take a nap and rest.
here is what ive learned from the three bonnaroos ive been to. while science claims that the sun gives us energy, it can also totally rape you into exhaustion from overexposure. bring a canopy/easy-up or hang up some tapestries around your campsite to make some shade and just nap all day. seriously dont see any shows from 12pm to about 3pm or 4pm unless you really really want to see them because the sun takes no prisoners, itll totally rape you if you are not prepared.

I never have trouble staying up during the night at Bonnaroo (some of the above methods are sometimes the reason for that), but I do have a LOT of trouble making it through the day without sleeping. I'm usually worn out from the night before, and if I drink a beer - and let's get real, I'm not gonna just drink ONE - it's naptime around 4 or 5.
Which usually ends up working out with me waking up just before the headliner.
My best passout story was in '06 on Saturday, when my friends came back to camp to find that our cheap canopy had totally collapsed. Then when they started to set it back up, they found me underneath the tarp, right in the middle, sound asleep in my chair. I told them to put the tarp back over me and let me sleep, but they wouldn't.
my friend Molly helped me stay awake for the late night stuff, but next year i still plan on taking it easier during the day, because my feet started to hurt pretty badly by late Fri. and Sat. night. it put a hamper on me getting my late-nite dance on.
i plan on sitting down for more day shows and trying a power nap before me and Molly hook up.
I've been to three Roo's so I've learned my lessons the hard way. The most important thing to me is not walking more than you have to. Figure out where you're going to go and when. Walking all day is a recipe for disaster later that night. Even if you aren't tired, you won't be able to stand up. Depending on where you camp at, you may not wanna go back to your campsite at all during the day. All three of my campsites have been at the very opposite end of the property. It sucks when you forget something and you have to trek all the way back. On that note, if you aren't super active already, I would definitely walk a few miles every night for a few weeks before Roo to gain a little stamina. It will help a lot. Obviously, drink water during the day instead of alcohol. If you don't have to be real close to a particular band, then don't be. Just chill in the shade and rest while you rock out on the grass.
Or you could just take a bunch of drugs guaranteeing you won't go to sleep.

Definitely agree with the napping. After driving all morning Thurs and setting up camp/exploring I drank a little bit then took a nap for a few hours. It not only helped for that night but pretty much got my sleep track on for the rest of the weekend. Definitely something I'll continue to do when I go to the Roo.
