i dont think they'd give us clues for obscure unknown bands.
Why not?
because, as people have said previously, DjJd got in trouble for giving out the clues for the big bands (EDIT: ie headliners) last year. Then again some herrings are red.
I wouldn't be surprised if the clues for the headliners were the last ones to come out.
"I want you to notice When I'm not around You're so fücking special I wish I was special But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here" -Radiohead
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” -Benjamin Franklin
^^^So you're saying Edison as the answer is too broad for "Someone is AC/DC", when a direct quote from a White Stripes song is "Edison is AC/DC" but your logic for TV on the Radio is that you plug TVs into the wall and Radios are battery powered, thus AC/DC?
...
Really??
i guess it makes more sense to me because it results with SOMETHING. i dont think they'd give us clues for obscure unknown bands. they'll give us hard clues, not clues that lead to nowhere, no?
give me a band that is big enough to play that fits the edison logic and i will secede. i thinks its a promising direction, i just dont see a result yet. and its not going to be the "edison the band" band, those are just kids from the uk and they dont even have a drummer right now.
I know the logic has been mentioned several times... but I'll recap it since people don't like reading giant threads.
1) "Edison is AC/DC" comes straight from a White Stripes song.
2) Wikipedia "Edison" and one of the disambiguations of the word is "Edison, a former name of the band Edison Glass."
3) Edison Glass has music videos on both Fuse and MTVu according to its Myspace page. They have just recently released their latest CD. They have 707,172 views on Myspace.
4) Edison Glass recently played a show under Sonic Youth... I'm sure a lot of you wouldn't mind seeing Sonic Youth at Roo. They are rumored to have shows with Paramore and Phantom Planet. Finally, Edison Glass is signed to Credential Records... a label based in NASHVILLE, TN. I think a festival 30 minutes away would draw some smaller bands from Nashville... such as Edison Glass.
really? i dont remember it happening that way, but maybe i just sat on here so much last year it felt like for ever.
but ok, sure its possible that the clue is for an obscure band, but if that's the case this whole things is kind of lame
Yea... that is kind of lame. But remember, this is our first clue. DJJD could have been testing us. He could have thrown the first one out there just to see what we're capable of this year. And maybe he wasn't supposed to release any clues yet, but he knew he wouldn't get in trouble by releasing one (which was very nifty as it played on words of a formerly rumored Roo band) of a smaller named band.
Sorry for a triple post... but I have just one more thing to throw out there. I live in Pittsburgh and was watching the "50 Most Famous Pittsburghers" or something today on TV... and I heard a segment on how Pittsburgher George Westinghouse invented AC. So I decided to look it up.
Actually, the original inventor of AC (who sold the patent to Westinghouse) was Nikola Tesla. The inventor of DC was Thomas Edison. So that could leave us with...
Tesla/Edison. As much as I'd hate to see them at Bonnaroo... there's a pretty famous hair rock band named Tesla. And we've already talked about several bands named Edison.
Not what I believe in... but just throwing it out there for thought.

yea, the full lyric in Astro is:
Maybe Tesla does the Astro Maybe Edison is AC/DC

I thought about the Tesla thing, but they don't seem like they would fit at roo.
tesla could work, if ac/dc is the clue for edison im gonna write an angry letter to this guy pointing out edisons role in hindering progress in the field of electrical transmission, and why tesla was a billion times better.

I don't think that Tesla would be terribly incongruous at Roo. They always seemed closer to Black Crowes than the hair metal bands of the days. (Maybe closest to "Trixter" but they are a pretty obscure point of reference these days!) Anyways, they were a pretty earthy rock band in the day. Not sure about them now.

Plus Edison arranged the electrocution of an Elephant just to make his point.

I'm listening at the moment, although I haven't been constantly. I think djjd might give us a warning anyway, as he's done in the past. But once things start up we'll need people to be vigilant! Especially all those people with macs who can rewind in case we don't catch something the first time around.
I don't know if this has been mentioned, and I'm too tired to sift through 18 pages of clues right now - but I've been thinking about the first clue we got. The one where DJ JD said "first clue was brought to y'all at the brunch. Anyone catch it?"
While there was some fish at the brunch, and fish / Phish is indeed something you'd catch, there's no way DJ JD would give out the biggest name of 2009 right off the bat. Especially not after the trouble they gave him last year. Also, the brunch happened before the band had even announced Hampton, and while DJ JD is an industry insider, I don't believe even he was in on the reunion three and a half months before the band made a statement.
I'm thinking it could be Leftover Salmon (I remember there was lox at the brunch, and it had probably been in someone's cooler for a day or two).... or, probably less likely, Hot Tuna.
I think it's Leftover Salmon though, because that's a big enough name to generate some buzz among the Roo crowd, while still being small enough that it doesn't give away too much of the lineup. Just a thought though.

Hmmm....but we know DJ JD said the clue directly to jess. I guess it's possible that he said something to jess about the food that was there, but that seems unlikely to me. I'm still thinking the use of the word "catch" was just coincidence and all the Phish rumors just made people try to see a connection that wasn't really there.

Did DJJD bring anything with him to the breakfast? Wasn't it a pass-a-dish situation?
Definitely a good point, however - DJ JD wrote the clue in the passive tense. He didn't say "I brought the first clue to y'all at the brunch", but simply said that it was brought to us. Take it for what it's worth - I'm just throwing out suggestions, really.
