ok so its still technically 2008 but there is lots of stuff going on with Umphreys in 2009. The new album Mantis is on the way with hopefully some good amount of bonus content unlocked. the new tour has been announced and i'll be at the asheville show on feb 21st. one of the reasons i started this thread here in the lounge is because we can discuss the potential and possibilities of Umphreys coming back to bonnaroo and hopefully getting a longass late night show because that 90 minute day time set this year just didnt cut if for me. it was good and all but i needed more.

You should have gone to Langerado (too). That late night set was killer. At some point, I had to take a crap and found a porto right by the stage that was miraculously spotless. Nothing like pooing in a clean porto while Umphrey's brings the heat.

I would love nothing more than to see them back on the farm this year - however - I think it is somewhat safe to apply the "every other year rule" when trying to determine who is elligible, if you will, for the coming year's festival. A new album definitely helps the propability of a second year in a row - but I'm not getting my hopes up about UM playing 'Roo this year.
I wasn't too excited when UM got a 1 or 2 pm set time last year - I hate the heat - but just before they came on massive clouds filled the sky and provided the greatest day-long overcast in Bonnaroo history.
The D.U.M.B. late night show in 2006 was a facemeltathon - perhaps the greatest show I have ever been a part of - it definitely changed my life.

You almost make me wish I had to take a crap myself that night
haha, my chocolates made me hit up a port-o-john during the ghostland late night last year..... a very vivid memory for me, peaking with stray light beams coming through the vent holes up top and relieving my colon of some wretched nastiness al while ghostland was melting faces with one of the greatest shows ever!

last year Umphrey's McGee kicked off what was to be the greatest day of music i've ever experienced in my life and i am eternally greatful. late night 09 i'm there
"Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us." — Charles Bukowski
Umphrey's McGee is a band that I've only gotten into since Bonnaroo, and that I now regret missing. I'd only heard the name once or twice before the lineup came out early this year, but I'm now a fan. I want them back on the farm. Instead, I saw Minus the Bear - I remember liking them when I first heard their recorded stuff a few years earlier, but I was rather underwhelmed by their performance.
(of course, if I had caught Umphrey's instead, then I wouldn't have gotten so close to the stage during MIA, so I guess it evens out)

I think there is a chance we see Umphrey's return this year since they just played during the day last year and having had a latenight in a while. I would definitely be there.
so umphreys has played bonnaroo 5 years. 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008. they had latenights in 2004 and 2006. i say that if they could play bonnaroo for three years in a row, and have two latenight shows, they are definately high enough on roo's favorite list to where its nowhere near out of the question for them to come back a consecutive year and do a latenight, especially if these rumors about bonnaroo returning to their roots are true.

ditto, and that show was a bit on the heavy side. but everytime i see them, they bust out something even better. Apparently they told Samus at the MMJ show last night in Chicago that they wished they could of played a latenight show in 08'..maybe a chance for that this year?
i think the heavy part of that show you are referring to is Wizard Buriel Ground. i really cant wait for Mantis. their website says itll be 55 tracks, 4+ hours of music. that late night spot is calling them .

I, too, was disappointed that they played during the heat of the day this year instead of getting a late-night (or at least late afternoon) set. Hopefully they'll be back this year, though.
If anyone lives in the Michiana area, they rock out every year at St. Patrick's Park in South Bend the weekend of Notre Dame's first home football game (they all went to school there and so did I). Unfortunately, my dad came to visit that weekend in '07 so I had to go out to dinner after the game rather than see them, but my best friend went and somehow won a guitar that they used on stage and then partied with them afterward. I still regret not going that time... moral of the story is don't miss 'em!
^^^ Nah man, that whole set was pretty much straight metal, not just WBG, and I loved every second of it too. LOVE ME SOME UMPH!
Yeah, WBG-Bridgless-Miss Tinkles is about as heavy as they get without throwing in DBK. The crazy part is that was actually a pretty sloppy show for them. That sounds even sweeter when they are on, and they always bring it latenight.
Their show last night in Chicago was soooo sick. The lighting rig they have running was Phish esq 1999. They were on Fire. Played with Josh Redmond and stanley jordan.
Yup, a couple of my buddies went and said he came out for a few songs. Checking the setlist now, it says he came out to play Hoochie Coochie Man,She's Only 19, and Damn Right I've Got The Blues

New Years looks like a great mix of their classics and great covers, but I am interested in hearing the 12.30 show. Looks like they planned on melting faces that night. WBG, 40's, then DBK>lyric stew.DBK. Looks like an insane finish.
