I was really into umphreys from like 05-beg 07, and then imo they got really stale and the shows just got more boring every time. I wouldnt care if they played at roo again but I def wouldnt go also someone tried to tell me that they were back on track in 08 but I saw them when they were with sound tribe and I left after 3 songs due to crying from boredom.

Well... we can't all have impeccable taste, can we?
They are pretty on point this year. Sorry you got 3 bad songs.
its not even that the songs are bad in and of themselves its just that imo they spend way to much time jerking off their guitars and shredding on pretty much every song, I just don't particularly like that anymore and feel like they didnt do it as much in 05-06. if anyone could reccomend me a show where this is minor shredding and a tad bit more spacey laid back stuff let me know.

idk if its what you are looking for, but the 10.09.08 show at northern lights in albany, NY has some spacey-esque jams on Pay the Snucka and Thin Air.

Lakai, check out their New Years show. I haven't heard it, but from the setlist it looks like your kind of show. They definitely don't do it as much anymore, but you still see them bust out one of those shows every now and then. Pay The Snucka use to be one of their heaviest songs, though.
^thats interesting that snucka used to be heavy. ive only seen umphreys twice, both this year, once at bonnaroo and once with sts9, so i feel like i am yet to see a real umph show with a real 100% umph crowd, but i will say both of those 90 minute shows i saw were some of my favorite shows of 08. i feel like i had a bad piece of the cake but still thought it tasted sweet. anyway Snucka on that albany show just has a really funky jam that i can dance to.

Well its Umphrey's, so its never gonna sound the same, but whenever i hear Pay the Snucka there is usually shredding, I don't know if i heard it in 08' though. They played I Want You when i saw them in Columbus a while back, it was pretty sweet. There was also some Kashmir and a blistering 40's Theme. Good show.

I'm guessing Mantis will be quite the album. I'm thinking its gonna be a nice proggy/metal/funky/spacey shred-fest of an album. And that sounds hella nice to me. Bring it! ;D

Agreed. I wonder if they are releasing all 4+ hours on vinyl for the collectors edition. Probably just the album and none of the bonus material would be my guess.

The bonus material is all pre-order download only.
Not only the new tracks but the new light set up too. Their light rig is off the hook. Think Phish 97 and its about the same. NYE was mind blowing and some of the best lights I have seen since Phish

it seems like some of the um shows i have seen, they have played the same songs, but they still rock my world.. the new cd is great but some of the chords i have heard alot throughout the entire cd which is disappointing, but i do love some um and hope to see them in the near future.. playing memphis march 28 Woot!

Yay! Now that Langerado is off Umphrey's can come an play their latenight set. I agree about them headlining a tent thursday. Or even getting the which stage, that'd be off the hook.
The langerado clause is 100% true and came from a band member. I think there is a chance that we could get UM on the line up. I would be AC is going after some of langerados acts now.
I went to the Atlanta shows this weekend and saw Jake before Thursday's show. I asked him about Roo and he said no, maybe to Waka, definitely Rothbury and Summercamp. I'm really hoping Superfly can change this. They ripped it by the way, last night was nuts.
