First of all---If it's a 76 and it's air-cooled, it's a bus--not a vanagon or a van.
True dat. I try to politely correct people when they call it a van.
I just got my '78 VW Westfalia a few months ago. I am preparing it right now to make the long journey down from Jersey. Hopefully a one way trip because I am looking to buy some farm land in the TN/Carolina's area.
peacelovevw and dystopian, from your experience were there any problems with the air-cooled engines and all of the dust in the field? That and my engine overheating in that Tennessee summer swelter are my only concerns.
Picture time!
(btw, this made me finally register after lurking the last 4 years. )

Beautiful freaking Westie!! Well done!!
I only drove my bus down last year, and the dust/heat wasn't too bad. I popped open the hood just to get more air circulating through, but I don't think that was even necessary. However, I came in when there wasn't much traffic and camped in the staff area so I didn't have to idle for too long.
If you do get stuck in traffic, prop the hood open and just try to get as much airflow through there as possible.
Good luck with finding your land!!
Oh, and if you haven't already, check out thesamba.com. It's a great resource for veedubs.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...
I think this year's lineup is AWESOME! ***I'm very proud to see EMINEM get top billing*** Traveling solo and looking forward to soaking up the sun, music, fresh air and happy people! ***Can't wait to meet you!***

I have one that I'm currently dropping a 2.7L Porsche 911 engine into to combat the slo-lane blues. I doubt it will be ready for this year, but maybe next year.

Oh man. . . I've been thinking about doing that to mine for the last eight years--I hope you can give the occasional update--I'd like to see the work in progress!!

Our first Bonnaroo in '07. Technically, I don't have the Beetle anymore; totaled it headlong 45 mph into a utility pole last November. Never imagined you could stop so fast. Occupants climbed out the passenger window without a scratch. The car wasn't so lucky. I miss that car.
I finally picked up a bus at a yard sale in Tenn. last year. It's a 71 westy and it's a beater. I rebuilt the engine and it runs like a champ. This is a picture I took last weekend when I went camping in Dahlonega.

This is my first bonnaroo and i could not be more of excited. I am taking my westie. I would love to see fellow vw lovers.
I contacted bonnaroo when tickets went on sale- about where i would have to park it, rv or camping. I was told that because that i couldnt pop the top if i parked in the camping. and sleeping up top is the best thing to me. being able to wake up in the morning and look out. so i went ahead and got an rv pass.......
Wow really? My friend took his in 04 and we had the top popped the whole time. It had no canvas on it and it would catch the breeze going over all the cars and direct it into the bus. Was like an air conditioner... I took a couple naps in there!
I really doubt they're going to say anything, but who knows.
Had the top popped on the Eurovan in 2008 in VIP camping (not VIP RV). Nobody said anything. There were several other EVCs and Westies parked nearby and everybody had tops up so they could sleep "upstairs" to catch any breeze they could.
All I have is a MINI Cooper, just as small as the bug and I don't think I could fit very much camping gear so we are taking either the sunfire or the corsica

Johnny Cornseed was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced corn trees to large parts of the east coast. He became an American legend, largely because of his kind and generous ways, his great leadership in conservation, and the symbolic importance of corn.
I just had to scrap my VW golf. That car took me from New Brunswick (the Provence, not the town in NJ) to Vancouver, down to Seattle, through the U.S. and back up to Montreal. It was a sad day indeed.
