Does anybody have any experience with making custom flags or having them made? I have an idea for a flag, but am not sure of a good place to get it done or how much I should expect to pay.

do some exploring on soccer sites for it. There are a few sites that make custom soccer flags for teams and fan clubs that do great work on custom flags
Here is the flag I made for our Sister site "Infobury" which was for the Rothbury Festival in Michigan.
There are things I'd do differently but its a great idea.
This flag is about 5 feet wide by 3.5 feet long. Its made from Cotton and each part is fused on with Double Back fusing and then sewn on with a hockey stitch. It a great Keepsake!

My friends and I have made our own flag the past two years and will do it agin this year. It was fun to get the whole group together a couple of nights before we left for the farm to make our flag. Here is a look at our flag form last year.
^^^ That's awesome! Did you make it yourself? I wanna make a flag for our campsite and have been wondering if anyone else had tackled this feat.
Hey Daniroo! Sorry for getting back to you so late! I'll be making the flag for Infobury again this year and just posted the instructions on infobury.com. I'll attach the thread link for you but its sooo super easy with just your cheapie broadcloth, , scissors, "Double back Fusing" (That I buy from Walmart) and a sewing machine. Here is the link for ya! In that thread you will also see the pictures of the Bonnaroo quilts I've made. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me!!
what do you guys generally use to fly them....i don't want to put mine up only to have the wind take it down fairly easy and end up knocking someone out...
PVC is cheap and easy. You can hacksaw it down to whatever length is convenient to haul and cement it together with a coupling on-site. Then saw it back down when you leave.
You can make it as long or short as you want. Just add another coupling
Get strong PVC (Sch 40 or Sch 80) and cut the base piece on an angle and you can drive it inmto the ground (hopefully) and then cement it together.
