I havent seen a thread like this. Basically just post bands who are part of your local scene whom you think would be a good fit for Bonnaroo. Who knows, this might help you discover your next favorite band. Personally Im always on the lookout for new independent artists to listen to. Hook me up!
There's a few band out of Winnipeg that would go over pretty well with different segments of the crowd.
For the electronic music fans who want to dance, I give you Moses Mayes - www.myspace.com/mosesmayes . They've played 10,000 Lakes a few times (it's only a few hours away) and from what I've heard, have gone over really well. Their shows are just big funk/dance parties.
For the rock music fans, American Flamewhip - www.myspace.com/americanflamewhip and Hot Live Guys - www.myspace.com/hotliveguys. I'll be seeing both of these bands tonight with another amazing band for 5 bucks. Gotta love cheap local shows.
For fans of the blues and blues-rock. Big Dave McLean - www.myspace.com/bigdavemclean is a Canadian blues legend. The man used to play with Muddy Waters (including a couple of SNL appearances) but still feels no need to play anything other than dingy little blues bars across the country. A band that plays with him pretty frequently, The Perpetrators - www.myspace.com/wpgperpetrators , would go over pretty well.
Last year, The Duhks, a local band that is signed to a record label out of Nashville, played a couple of times and did a Q&A about climate change. So far, I think they're the only act out of Winnipeg to play Bonnaroo. There's plenty of more that easily could, but being so isolated up here, barely anyone gets any sort of national attention, let alone international attention. Well, except Neil Young, The Guess Who, The Weakerthans and Propagandhi
Delta Moon - These guys are from Atlanta and have been around for a while. I just saw them live for the first time a couple of weeks ago in Asheville and was blown away. Checked out some of their stuff, and beginning with their most recent album, they've gotten rid of the idea that they need a female lead singer. They sound much "grittier" with Tom Gray taking care of vocals. They've done all kinds of festivals all over the place, but I think they could hang at 'roo.
I actually didn't know Sleeptalker was still around, I haven't heard from them in a year or so. I have one of their songs on my iPod, I guess I got it from the free downloads from Next Big Nashville 2007? I like em, they'd be a good fit.
I've heard of Sans Seraph around town. But I've never seen you guys play, keep me updated!
There are sooo many bands in Nashville, it's often hard to keep track. I remember seeing De Novo Dahl last year at Roo and thinking how strange it was because I knew the band and some of their music.
I live in Austin, and they usually put about 3-4 area bands in the lineup. My guess is this year's relatively obscure bands will be White Denim and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears.

Sleeptalker is probably my favorite local band. They jsut released some new stuff a few months back. We're/Sans Seraph are/is doing a 2 hour set at the Rutledge on the 17th. The opening band is another good Nashville band...Lovers and Liars.

I wish I lived close to Telescreen. How are they live?
Unfortunately I haven't caught their live show yet, I just have an audio bootleg of one show. The one time I was all set to go see them was when they were opening for dredg, but the show I was going to got cancelled.
And you guys are playing a two hour set??? Any plans on recording that? I hate that NC and TN are such damn wide states!

Fuck Dredg and Telescreen together would be a great show lol. Yeah, were doing all of after the rain, 2 songs that didnt make that album, the stuff we wrote as a 4 piece has been re written for the 6 piece version of us, plus we have some new songs and a cover. I plan on slipping the sound guy a few bucks to hook me up with a recording of the show. Hopefully that should do it. Im also gonna post on our myspace that we want any and all tapers who can make it to show up and record them shits.
They aren't local to New Orleans, but they're local somewhere I saw these guys open up for Lotus last year. Great triphop. They've released an album recently that I haven't listened to, but I constantly listen to an EP of theirs (msg me if you're interested).
Music is a collective language. It can bring a sense of community among strangers, regardless of language, nationality, or beliefs. Spin said they were for fans of Flaming Lips and My Morning Jacket, or how I like to say, "If the Lips and MMJ made sweet passionate love, Wax Fang would be their love child." So yea I like them a lot.
They played a lot of small festies last year and i think they're playing wakarusa this year. they are a lot of fun.
Deastro web: www.myspace.com/deastro song: shaded forest demo (it's a demo so you have to turn it up. the other songs are also good) They had a brief write-up in Spin and were emusic.com's #2 band of hte year. kind of a modern sounding New Order. He is one of the most passionate live performers i've ever seen. always strives to get the crowd involved.
none of their recorded material really does the band justice. There is so much energy and emotion. Rob is a guitar god.

I love them live. They are one of the last detroit bands that still have the vibe going from when the White Stripes were the big thing in town.
it's unfortunate that their 30 best songs aren't on myspace, but it doesn't really matter. this song still rocks, as does Arrow. They've done 2 national tours where they only play at local libraries. Some of my favorite lyrics of all time. This song is about a guy who breaks out of prison, throws a party for his friends, and goes right back to jail. hilarious stuff.
If you even kind of like pop music i will mail you a copy of their CD for free. i'm that confident that you'll love it. They sound like every 80's sitcom theme song ever written. they are incredible singers and musicians. There are 3 part harmonies flying all over every song.
