I have decided to camp this year instead of driving in every day and want to make sure we have lots of shade.
I have looked through the threads and didn't find any actual suggestions of good items and prices.
Does anyone have recommendations? I really don't want to spend more than around $50 because it will probably only be used for Bonnaroo. I have plenty of tapestries and tarps for extra shade also.
Well I would get a 12x12 ezup it will be about 70 but well worth the price difference. A 50 dollar one will take you an hour to put up and take down. An EZup takes all of 5 minutes.
I agree with Jess - the little bit of extra invested in an EZ up is well worth it - plus - they are nice to have around anyway - because they are so simple to use - you will find yourself using it over and over

I found an EZ up on clearance at Target last year for $19.99...it was quite sturdy, 10x10 and took less than ten minutes to put up.

I've been looking for them online and can't find any under $150.... Do they need to be the name brand? Or just similar?
Ours is the Target Greatland (?) brand and I assure you it's quite well made and very easy to put up! Keep combing the aisles...you're bound to come across a bargain! Good luck to you...I'll keep my eyes open for you as well.

Ok cool thanks I will take a look and see what Target has.
I want to say I found ours around February or so...seems that's when some of the stores start clearing out old camping/outdoor gear for new merchandise.

dont get the shade tent that has 5 separate poles. we had one and so did just about everyone around us, but anyone who had one had the hardest time actually getting it up because you pretty much need a person at every pole.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Yeah I am hoping to avoid that as it will probably be me and 2 or 3 teenagers, although hopefully they will help.......

ha... you gotta tell the teens that if they want the shade, they gotta set it up
use your seniority to your advantage! thats what my adults always do (LOL)
Good point, although knowing them they will say they can go find a friend who has shade lol They usually know lots of others who go because we live in Nashville, so it would give them excuse to get away from me.....
I second or third or fourth the Target shade tents. They're a great value and work well. The only thing I would say is be sure that you're getting the EZ-up style of Greatland shade. I bought the wrong kind the first time around and spent about an hour in the boiling sun putting pieces of tubing together using a diagram. It was super sturdy once I put it up and anchored it, but this time around I made certain to get a more pre-assembled type. It doesn't seem to have come with any sort of guy lines to anchor it, but that should be easy to remedy. I will say that although the EZ-up brand ones are sturdier and probably better quality, they weigh a TON versus the Greatland knockoffs. The Greatland ones are still heavier than the ones requiring assembly, but much easier to lift and carry than the EZ-up ones. Definitely watch sales.
You can very occasionally get a good deal on eBay, but pay very close attention to what shipping is going to cost you. Sometimes what looks like a steal really isn't a bargain, taking into account shipping.

I am thinking about buying 2 10x10 canopys and stretching a 30x30 tarp over the top with my 10x10 army like tent under it as well. I figure it would be big enough that i could let the neighbors put their tents at the edges as well so there will be one great big common area. The tarp would also help deflect the sun better. what do you guys think?
Great if you have the romm. Camp sizes can vary wildly from year to year and by luck and location. Of course if you share shade with neighbors, than it should work well.
I'd secure the thing very well and attach the tarps with zip ties as they as easy and strong. Winds can really reek havock with such a big "sail"
^^ I bought a couple MN Viking ones from this guy early in the season. They are good quality and easy to set up. I may get a couple Colts ones, not because I like the Colts but just because the price is so good.
Last year I picked up an EZup brand name at Walmart about a month before Roo. They had a sale, and they were $60 if I remember correctly. They sold quick though, so just keep your eyes peeled for sales!!
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
The Colts EZ-Ups that gloaming101 mentioned are still available on ebay for $35 including shipping. I got one (and I'm not a Colts fan). The price was just too good.
Just search "colts slanted gazebo" on ebay. or seller castlekings17.
