My buddy and me brought two big blue tarps and some poles and tent spikes. We got friendly with our neighbors right away and asked if they would be interested in building a huge shaded area with us and they liked the idea so we used their tarps as well. We tied off the tarps on one side of their car and brought it toward the center of camp with two poles. We met the other tarp at the center and pulled that to our other neighbors' car so it looked like a big circus tent underneath. Then we just found out which side the sun would rise and put the last tarp from the middle with the poles, down to the ground and used our tent spikes to keep it in the ground. This not only gave us shade the whole weekend, but tons of space to move around, setup chairs and even setup my cot. Roo is too hot for a tent in my opinion so I went cot to keep cool air moving through and I got an extra hour or two of sleep every morning (when my buddy and the neighbors weren't waking me up of course). Oh, the tarps also saved us a lot of money rather than buying store made shade. That little extra money goes a long way. Maybe treating yourself to roo food, extra drinks for the trip, roo shirt, or even save it for the next festival.
Depending on who you go with or how you are going to be most comfortable, I would try different methods of shade in your backyard. Find a sunny spot and practice setting up everything you need. That'll also get you ready for the unexpected, longest line of your life, there goes the sun, we have to setup in the dark, roo trip.
^^ I bought a couple MN Viking ones from this guy early in the season. They are good quality and easy to set up. I may get a couple Colts ones, not because I like the Colts but just because the price is so good.
Thanks and karma for the tip.
What's the height on that MN/Colts gazebo? I have tons of tarps and a 10x10 canopy that I used last year but the conveinience of the EZ-up can't be beat and for that price, a steal. Last year I ended up basically setting up my whole site solo (the people I met on the way in whom I ended up collaborating sites with were not very helpful) it was a real pain in the ass esp. in the heat what with tying and staking out lines and tarps but in the end it all stayed dry and was nice and shady ..hell I slept in on Sun until like 11:00 the people I was camped with thought I was dead. Long night with Phil and Chali ....I did not wait around for Kanye-not a fan
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
I picked up this 12'x9' shade house from walmart of $38 (shipped free to local store for pickup).....Suprised by the quality for the cheap price and it went together quickly. Zippers on both sides makes it a great front porch for my tent. It's built more like a tent than the normal pop up shade things i've seen, but will be perfect for this

DAMN! Where the heck is Meg when I need her?!.... It took me forever to find a thread remotely close to what I was looking for. Anyway, I was thinking... Would silver tarps be better for using as shade? Silver== more reflection, possibly?

I think the silver ones are cooler. Whether it's the reflectivity, the thickness, or my imagination, I don't know but I'd recommend the silver. They can be more expensive though so...

silver tarp over top of shade canopy and tent. use beech balls to put a little space between tent and tarp for ventalation...it will make it cooler
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
