Good point. I was right under the tree when it got stuck and thank goodness that dude shimmied up the tree to untangle it because it was super dry and hot all weekend if I remember.

There was almost a terrible disaster with a sky lantern at Forecastle last year. Someone set one off too close to the stage and it missed going up under the top of the stage by less than a foot. It was during MMJ playing Rocketman. Not going to lie, it was kinda scary.
I'm not against sky lanterns if they are 1) set off in an open field & 2) set off by people who know what they're doing.
I was standing behind one that got set off at the What Stage during Phish last year. The people directly around them knew it was going up, but not a ton of other people. Well I guess they didn't really know what they were doing and let it off a little too soon, because it just kinda hovered just above the crowd. I don't know if it hit them or what, but eventually someone freaked out and punched it, causing it to all go up in flames. Fireball in the middle of a crowd, seems legit.
That being said, I really enjoy watching them and am fine with it as long as done properly.
I ordered 10 of these lights a few weeks ago. I was skeptical b/c they're cheap (2 for $8) but figured if the original price was $29 they should be good. I was pleasantly surprised. They are BRIGHT! They also have magnets on the back which give options for placement. I'm planning to put them on my EZ-Up legs. www.nomorerack.com/daily_deals/view/259888-2_pack__super_bright_27_led_worklights
I had some trouble placing my order but their customer service was very helpful. If you place an order over $50 but it won't process, try breaking it up into two separate orders. That's what I ended up doing.
If you want to place an order, for anything on the site, shoot me a PM w/ your email address. I can invite you to join which will give you a $10 gift card toward your purchase. And one for me too!

This will be my first Bonnaroo . A facebook friend pointed me to this forum earlier today. I've been browsing for hours. I'm so excited for June now. You guys are great. Thanks for posting such great information. I just bought that camelback for $32.

I bet there will be quite a few of us at the farm in June with that Camelbak Daystar

Congrats on making a couple of great decisions, first to go to Roo, and second to get invaluable info here to make sure you do things right so you can have a blast. I don't have any links to awesome deals to share right now, but I will take this opportunity to stress how important a few items are.
E-Z Up-style canopy. You MUST have shade at your campsite. A tent will not be enough, as it will be unbearable inside shortly after sunup.
Camelbak or other convenient hydration. You will sweat. A lot. You've already got that covered, which is great. The water they supply isn't bad at all.
Either a high quality, 5-day cooler or two coolers, one stocked with dry ice, unless you don't like cold beverages and want to spend a ton of money on food and drinks.
Tent stakes. When the wind kicks up it is not uncommon to see a few tents and E-Z ups go airborne. Major bummer to come back to camp and find your tent gone or destroyed.
Some means to charge your phone, unless you keep it turned off or are stuck in 1991 and don't have one. Cars work, but I've jump-started five other cars in three years.
Sunscreen, the high SPF stuff. Unless you are pretty dark-skinned or enjoy pain and looking like a lobster. The newer spray stuff is really convenient to reapply inside Cenetroo.
Read as much of Inforoo as you can stand, there is tons of great info everywhere. And since you appear to be in Ohio, if you want to caravan down with some experienced Roo'ers, feel free to PM me. Its always nice to meet up with new people, pool resources, know your neighbors, etc. My first Roo was the first for my whole group, and it was very intimidating. This is THE site for info and related chat, and everyone pretty much rocks.

Did we all get the blue one? We should make a where's waldo game out of it!

Hey all! I was at Target last night and in their One Spot section (dollar/cheap stuff) I found head lights!! They were only $3 each! The batteries aren't provided, but it only requires one AA battery. The lights aren't fancy or anything, just simple and small which will be good on packing and space. I'll try them out tonight and see if they are worth the money

Although it was awesome when everyone started cheering for the person. He totally save the night.

I think I suck at the search function on this board... Trying to find some good tent info, recommendations and what not, but my searches brought nothing back and I KNOW tents have been talked about a lot. Anyone help?? Our last tent was a Coleman and was perfect for our needs but it only lasted two Roos. Something that sleeps 4 people and is sturdy, of course. Kelty keeps coming up in my searches on Amazon - reputable brand?

I know everyone says to stay away from Ozark Trail/Walmart brand, but we bought an Ozark Trail 3-4 person tent in 2007 and used it at 2 festivals that year and 1 in 2008, and still set it up occasionally in the back yard for the kids to play in, and it held up great except for the time at Camp Reggae when someone set of fireworks next to our tent and sparks rained down on it and left tiny holes in the rainfly. I'm planning on using it at Roo this year; I'll just cover it with a tarp in case it rains.

I must have been 5 feet away from you b/c unless this happened twice I saw the exact same thing. Then some kid finally had enough and just punched the thing and stomped it out on the ground. I really thought I was going to end Roo last year watching someones hair get burnt off
I ordered some of those (20), and they're pretty big lanterns. Like 2 feet high, one wide. Will probaly test flight a couple this weekend...not so sure they're "permitted" and may be collected although I've seen them every 'Roo of course. Supposed to burn out before falling to earth, biodegradable and all that. If I can, I'll post a vid link on the whole testing thing. Even if you don't being them with, cool to have for those special occasions wink wink, nudge nudge
For you and katbur2, just so you know, sky lanterns are technically illegal in TN now, so be careful if you choose to bring them.

I was actually just checking that one out - my husband is 6'4 so he'd love the head space in that one. Thank you! Hoping for no rain this year! Rain last year, while it wasn't totally miserable, kinda put a damper on Sunday for me. Let's just hope the weather is cooler again this year!

I've been having problems with search too.
It seems to be a Proboards issue and the search function should hopefully be working again shortly.

Double screen doors, zip-up screen windows on all sides, and vented at the top (ventilation is key for me when it comes to a tent). The rain fly can be a bit tricky to put on, especially in the wind because it basically makes a kite with the poles. Put it together a few times before roo and it won't be an issue. I've put the thing up by myself before. I've slept 4 people in it (3 on a queen mattress and 1 on a twin) at Bear Creek. Make sure you get a can of seam sealer and apply before use (though I've never had an issue with it leaking and I used it for a whole season without sealing it). Watch the price for it... I got it in 2011 for $50 and it's been through two seasons worth of festivals and camping trips.
edit: This is actually the one that I have which is 10x8. The one posted above is 12x10.

Sweet - thank you! I think I have it narrowed down a bit, I'll have to check that one out a bit more and compare everything. What do you think is better, a rainfly that only covers the top of the tent or a fly that covers the whole tent? Reason I'm asking, I too LOVE the cross breeze, and I'm considering more or less a tent with a ton of "windows". Only thing that will suck about the whole tent being covered by the fly is if it does actually rain - no ventilation But if it doesn't rain, it'll be really cool at night with the possibility of a cross breeze.

I did check that tent out earlier but it looks like it's out of stock - I added my email to alert me when it's back. Thank you again for the recommendation

The Kelty tent my parents bought when I was a very small child and used for yearly trips is the same tent that got me through all my music festivals and general camping trips, right up until this fall when it finally failed, after 20+ years.

I don't like tents that have the rain fly that covers the whole thing... if it rains you have no ventilation at all. With the tent I have, the rainfly covers the windows a bit so I can still unzip them a little and it's mesh at the top so there's plenty of ventilation. Imagine that it's 80 degrees at night still, it's raining, and your rain fly goes to the ground. You will sweat your booty off.
The Kelty, named after the inventor of backpacks Dick Kelty who was an avid hiker. Your useless information of the day brought to you by my 5th grade daughter who did a report on it.
