Has anyone gotten replacement parts via the Camelbak lifetime warranty before? The sternum strap on mine is broken and I was wondering how easy it'll be to get a new one.
Anyone ever used Nike Dri-Fit socks as a cheaper alternative to SmartWool socks? Champs has 6 pair for $20 right now and was thinking about snagging some.

Same thing happened to me after Roo '11. I remembered about it around April of last year, did the online replacement request & quickly had a replacement piece in the mailbox in time to go back to the farm. I picked the wrong replacement color, but it works perfect. Love Camelbak customer service.
Kmart has this 12x12 canopy for $75 in my local ad this week. Great price. You could fit your tent under and still have plenty of lounging room!! I'm considering it since I always bring 2 10x10 and one is pretty beat up and needs replaced.

I can't speak to the quality/performance of the Nike socks, but if they are anything like the adidas equivalent to Dri-Fit they are winners. I swear by heavier Smartwool socks for the cold months and adidas whatever-they're-calleds that are light and wicking for the hot months. I stock up when I see them for cheap at discount department stores like Gabriel Brothers or Marshalls.

I've never used SmartWool socks, but I do sell Nike Dri-Fit at my sneaker store. So one day I decided to try them out for myself, these are now the only socks I wear and they are great, wore them last year at roo and had no problems.
Random noob question here. First timer this summer but still trying to finalize my buying list of stuff for the 4 days. I'm def buying a 4 person Coleman sundome tent for my gf and I, should be enough room for two cots and some gear from the sizing info. Now I am looking at canopies. I've seen the actual EZ up brand 10 x 10 size canopies which should be perfect for GA camping but has anyone tried the Walmart brand ozark trail? I would rather shell out $50 for a canopy that I will pretty much only use at Bonnaroo and a few times throughout the year rather than $100 for the EZ UP brand, I just dont want it to blow away or rip or something during the fest. I plan on using stakes to hammer it down into the ground.
I am also using army cots, army camelbak, and other various army gear/crap. I want to put a tarp down for the tent floor and the canopy floor and maybe one or two just for the hell of it. Wondering where or what the best and most cost efficient tarps are for hanging on the side of the canopy, ground, etc. Thanks for all the help. I'm sure I'll have more questions but that's all for now.
You should only be concerned with tarping off one side of your EZUP, and thats the side that is facing east. This will prevent the sun from baking your tent in the morning when it rises. Just make sure you cut some slits in it so that air can flow through it.

Amazon is offering $20 off $100 worth of Coleman gear right now for anyone who is interested. The offer is good through 3-31. I've had my eyes on that 6 person instant tent for awhile.

I'm not sure if this brand is any good or if anyone is interested (or if it'd even be a good thing to have at Roo, but Woot has an 8-person Turbo Tent Screen Machine. Originally listed at $598 for $199.
this thread is awesome. I love/hate that I found out about steepandcheap... it's amazing but I am now a little obsessed. also, I have yet to read through the whole thing but found some great tips even in the first few pages. thanks to everyone who has shared a great deal!

New strap came yesterday. Has a little elastic in it making it an upgrade over the one I was replacing. And they threw in a sample packet of "electrolyte mix" that supposedly won't leave a residue in the bladder.
I'm sure that I am not breaking any new ground with this idea, but I tried something new to get a more comfortable sleep last year, and it worked beautifully. I had previously tried things like egg crates and yoga mats without much effect, and I have always been too cheap to go the route of a $75-$100+ air mattress. I think the one I bought cost maybe $8 at Wal-Mart. I just blew it up when I arrived and slid it underneath my sleeping bag.

I've used one of these every year that I've done GA camping. Just buy a cheap twin sheet and wrap it around it. And it has a built in pillow. Works beautifully.

A few years ago a friend of mine bought one of these on our last grocery run right before Roo. After we set the site up and cracked beers he set about blowing his "mattress" up. When he finished he set it down on the ground, lied down, released a long, relaxed sigh and the matt immediately popped. It was so perfect you wouldn't believe it if you saw it in a movie. One of my favorite Roo memories.
Not saying this is going to happen to everyone else because clearly other people have had success but oh my God that was hilarious.
I sure as heck didn't pay $75-100 for my air mattress! It can be annoying to fill up daily, but with a battery operated pump, it's all good. Beats feelin the rocks and crap beneath you from just a sleeping bag and whatnot.
every air mattress I've ever used has leaked, surprisingly pool toys have done better. I used a yoga mat last year and slept like a rock.... until my tent switched sites to the surface of the sun every morning

These work fine but You can find a good air mattress for under $20 at some places. I bought a twin size one from Target for like $15 recently. Not the best but it gets the job done.
We bailed on air mattresses before Roo last year. Just too many issues with them over the years. We got cots from Wal-Mart for about $50 each. They also came with a thin mattress that goes on top as well. They worked great and I'm so glad we invested in them.
