i think it's hilarious how this thread went from discussing how fast it would sellout of tickets to if it would be cancelled! anyways, i agree with the fact that even if ticket sales were too slow that they wouldn't consider cancelling unless it was more than just this one incident. i think it would definitely hurt their future business. plus how much do you think ticket sales would really invoke this kind of discussion when it's only late march and they've got plenty of more time to sell tickets and also considering that you have to figure they make money off vendors and sponsors as well. honestly and realistically i think they're doing just fine with ticket sales and i still stand strong on my prediction of a sellout within a couple weeks of the festival. i think Phish alone sold maybe 30 or 40,000 tickets for them. that's my opinion. now i wonder what kind of things could be getting added....

Bonnaroo, whether anyone likes it or not, has been THE festival in the US for the past 4 years now. Them canceling now, after the amount of money they have made the past few years, is just about a near impossibility. I understand the economy is bad, but it simply won't hurt Bonnaroo that much.
IF (and trust me that is a huge IF, I don't see it happening at all) but IF Bonnaroo decides to call it quits, they'll do it after that years festival has happened. They'll be going through with it, I could assure you of that.

I know, right? That cracked me up too. I think the long wait for adds is making us collectively jumpy. It'll all be fine on Wednesday when we (hopefully) get some adds. Then we can get serious about worrying about conflicts!
Ok , so like a panicked dork I emailed them too. I just got home and this was my reply:
Rumors from Inforoo? Shocker!
Here's what we can tell you: Instead of cancelling Bonnaroo, we're going to make it even better. Stay tuned to our website for some real cool surprises... Spread the word because Bonnaroo 2009 is going to be the place to be this summer. Scratch that. The place to be this year.
Druid I got similar emails.... I think a few things are going to come out.. Comedy tent, and other, now that 10kl, Wakarusa and Rothbury are out I think there will be a grand slam of announcements to get the attention back on Roo. AC and Superfly are pros at this with a lot of experience.
Yea, glad I was not the only one to question them. Nice to get a real reply.
I like that "Rumors on Inforoo. Shocker!"
Yeah but they should also realize the rumors on inforoo on the lineup usually has it pretty close a month before the announcement consistently for a few years now...

ill be let down at this point even if its the dead...
i would never be let down by the Dead. but i think we're gonna get something cool. i hoping for maybe the Allman Brothers Band and Jane's Addiction plus Snoop Dogg playing Thursday night on the Which Stage???

Well, of course they're gonna deny that Roo is being cancelled, untill they're absolutely sure they can't pull it off. We'll get some lame "big additions", then when everybody realizes how much this year's line up sucks and buys Rothbury tickets instead, they'll give it up and put the farm on ebay.
They aren't likely to cancel it because THEY OWN THE PLACE. The overhead to cancel would likely match that of putting it on at this point.
Does that mean the rumor here is wrong? It could just be skewed. It could be that the high level meetings are being held to scale things back or figure out what to do with a smaller crowd.
Frankly, does anyone really think AC or anyone else would tell an artist something so private? They are a sieve-- heck, TV On the Radio leaked the entire lineup on MySpace for goodness sakes. So chances are this is a game of telephone.

On a personal note if Bonnaroo is half full I will run around like Macauly Culkin in Home Alone and hug Trent Reznor.

i hope that only sell 50-60 k tickets, i would prefer the space(and the Trent-hugging fiasco) It won't sell-out or be cancelled this year. but i have heard that 2010 will be cancelled since they haven't even sold one ticket yet, sheesh!

I'm starting to wonder about these tickets. I mean, Phish sold out Fenway park at $50/ticket in 5 minutes. How the hell has Roo NOT sold out? I mean they can't be selling twice as many tickets as there are at Fenway. Even if they are, they've been on same for 3 months now.
It just strikes me as really strange that they're still on sale.
I wonder how much scalpers had to do with the reg. Phish tickets?
I think scalpers have ALOT to do with Phish's sellouts as with The Dead and ABB this year. It seems like you can get whatever tickets you want on stubhub, ticketsnow, etc. but you can't just buy regular priced tickets when they go on sale.

When a show, ESPECIALLY one with 10's of thousands of tix sells out in mere seconds or minutes, it has EVERYTHING to do with scalpers, and Ticketmaster is ridiculously corrupt

Sen. Chuck Schumer announces new legislation aimed at ticket brokers BY Bill Egbert DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Monday, April 6th 2009, 4:00 AM
The controversy that started over ticket sales for Bruce Springsteen's latest tour may lead to new federal legislation.
A proposed new federal law would curb ticket brokers like the glorified scalpers who froze fans out of a string of high-profile concerts by Bruce Springsteen and others.
The new legislation, announced by Sen. Chuck Schumer Sunday, would give fans two days to buy tickets before a ticket reseller can scoop them up.
"The bottom line is we need to create a fair system where fans get first crack at good seats at a reasonable price," Schumer said.
Ticketmaster enraged fans of The Boss in February when his shows sold out only a minute after tickets went on sale. The Ticketmaster Web site then redirected fans to an affiliated reseller hocking the tickets at a hefty markup.
At the time, Schumer called for an anti-trust investigation of Ticketmaster, which controls up to 70% of the U.S. market for event tickets.
Perhaps wary of federal trust-busters, Ticketmaster's CEO has enthusiastically endorsed Schumer's new bill.
"I am very happy to support Sen. Schumer's thoughtful proposal and leadership on this issue," said Ticketmaster CEO Irving Azoff.
Ticket resellers will also have to register with the Federal Trade Commission under the Schumer bill.
"This is easy and simple to understand," said Schumer. "I think we can get this done quickly."
It won't be quick enough for U2 fans scrambling to purchase concert tickets Monday.
Schumer hopes to pass the legislation in time for the new process to be in place when baseball playoff tickets go on sale this fall.
