It's my first time to roo this year and I got a couple questions...
Whats the deal with alcohol? I will most likely be goin with a group of friends (all guys if that makes a difference) and none of us will be 21. I'm pretty sure we will be arriving with a large quantity of beers. Do they check ID's or anything while entering the fest?
I'm traveling from NY so it should be quite the trip. Do you have any advice regarding things to do on the way? My friends and I are attempting to make a small vacation out of the whole thing plus it would be nice to split the driving into multiple days.
How much money do you usually spend? And on what?
And finally...not really a question but...I am curious as to what really goes on at roo. In other words I am aware that its full of concerts and activities to do throughout the day but am I gonna be hanging with just my friends or will I meet friends or what? I'm just wondering considering I'm only 18 and droppin some serious cash!

- as long as your beer is in cans, you should be fine. if you guys look super young, i guess they could check IDs, but i've never personally heard of that happening. they're more worried about other stuff.
- perhaps someone from the northeast could help you out with that question.
- the amount of cash you should bring depends on a variety of factors. do you plan on buying your food at the festival, or are you bringing your own food? plan on buying souveniers/merchandise? and probably the biggest factor - do you plan on having "recreational" fun? it's possible to get by on as little as $60-$80, while others blow through $400 easy. $150-$250 is average.
- meeting people at roo as super easy; most everybody is friendly. start with your camping neighbors; getting to know your camping neighbors is key. while spending time with your friends is fun, i highly recommend occasionally wandering off on your own and hanging with new people - it really is part of the roo experience. and if there's a show you want to see that conflicts with a show your friends want to see, go off and see that show. you can always meet up with your friends later.

I don't think you'll have a problem bringing beer (just no glass bottles!). In 07 my friends and I were all under 21 and they didn't check our stuff too thoroughly. Even if they had, I doubt they would have cared. Bigger fish to fry and all that.
We were coming from NY too, but we did the drive all in one go so I can't really help with stuff to see/do on the way. My recollection of the drive is limited to this: - somewhere there is a sign with a phone number consisting almost entirely of the number 2. If it is the middle of the night and you are extremely sleep deprived, this can startle you so much you almost drive off the road. - at some point off in the distance in front of us we saw a glowing white cross. This may or may not have actually existed. Again, middle of the night. - in Georgia, the roads are red. At least some of them. They seemed to change color in a split second. This can also cause you to almost drive off the road. - if you drive long enough, you will see some sort of sign featuring the name of everybody in your group. - also there is a town along the way called "Ooltewah." I found that quite humorous. - rest stops get creepier and creepier as you get out of the Northeast. - somehow, just driving in the general direction of Manchester without having any idea of specifically where Bonnaroo is actually WILL get you to Bonnaroo. - if you drive overnight, it is perfectly reasonable to eat breakfast several times.
That's all I can come up with
As far as money - you will spend however much you bring. The amount of money people spend ranges a LOT, so it's really hard to say.
You can (and should) absolutely meet people there! Don't be afraid to strike up conversations with anyone, everyone is friendly. Definitely get to know your neighbors, you'll probably meet some cool people to talk to and it's always better to be familiar with who's around you so you can keep an eye out for each other and make sure nothing gets stolen (I don't mean to worry you, it's not very common but it does happen occasionally).
It's my first time to roo this year and I got a couple questions...
Welcome! And you are going to have SOOO much fun!! ;D

Most likely as everyone else has said as long as MOST of your alcohol is in cans or plastic bottles you should be fine...if you bring glass bottles HIDE them VERY VERY well at the very bottom or in very concealed places.....the only ones likely to check IDs are local police...they DO have local police/sheriffs who randomly check vehicles in line to get in...and if you are unlucky enough to be one out of the 10/20 out of each line going in that they pull out to check then there is a CHANCE you might get carded...but even then they are looking more for the bigger stuff...so as long as ONE of you looks legal you might still get by...and even if ALL your stuff gets taken....you'll still be able to buy it once inside with no probs....

There are a bunch of people on the boards from the northeast and the New York area particularly....fishingmaniac and lordrockinghood come to mind right off hand...might try PMing one of them...they are both SUPER nice guys!
How much money do you usually spend? And on what?
Once you get to Roo....money is usually for food (if you don't bring your own to cook/eat), beverages other than the water provided, souveniers and recreational activities. And...that's about it..some people can get by on as little as $100-150 and some people bring $800-$1000! I would say the average person usually brings around $200-500 and probably goes home with a bit of change......just my guess.....
And finally...not really a question but...I am curious as to what really goes on at roo. In other words I am aware that its full of concerts and activities to do throughout the day but am I gonna be hanging with just my friends or will I meet friends or what? LMAO!! It is nothing like anything you have ever seen I can be safe to say! ;D ANYTHING you want to happen....or absolutely nothing! You will walk around in awe just taking it all in for the first oh....three or four hours.....THEN your energy will kick in...and WHOOOSH! You will be caught up in the most magically mystical Alice through-the-looking-glass weekend of your life.....enjoy it...DON'T try to do EVERYTHING....just enjoy BEING there...and take it all in a little piece at a time...and you'll be fine! ;D
plasticpepper, how long did that trip take? What part of NY were you coming from?
And bamabelle, yes it sounds amazing! I've been to smaller festivals and have been speechless about those but nothing overnight...please tell me they give out free stuff! For some reason, no matter what it is, I really enjoy receiving things for free...maybe because..its free?

From Long Island New York here........I haven't really taken too many detours on the drive down considering it's about 15-18 hours usually. We stop off for food or any cool signs but for the most part just drive down to get there quick.
One thing I suggest is driving down so you get there sometime Wednesday night. Go to the Wal Mart parking lot and begin meeting people. Dunno exactly which Wal mart right now but it's the closest one to Roo.....less than a mile from entrances. Anyway this gives you time to shop for last minute essentials, sleep in your car, and get food/wash up in the store before you go get in line to enter.
The only way to describe Roo is - it's another country. It's just amazing. great vibes, great people, awesome music and good food.

I'm in the Albany area but we stopped in NJ to pick up one of my friends. And we also took a detour to the Newark airport in an attempt to rescue another friend's lost luggage. (Her flight got diverted there and they couldn't get her on a plane to Albany in time so she took the train but was told her luggage was in Albany...then when we went to the airport in Albany to get it, we got told it was in Newark...so when we got back to Newark, they admitted that they had it but wouldn't give it to her. SO STUPID. It had to get mailed to Bonnaroo.) So anyway, I think all in all it was around 15 or 16 hours, maybe?

Thanks again.
We got cigarettes last year. Lots and lots of cigarettes Probably saved me 15 bucks a day, but also took like 5 years off my life.
If you roam around and check out the different vendors and displays, you'll get some free shit. I can't promise it will be high quality shit, but it will be free.
