Since last summer, My friends and I have been planning a rather lengthy bike trip, to go about the midwest, see natural sites and be together before we part ways to college. As the planning went on, we set our sites on the Bonnaroo festival. We are located in Chicago, Illinois, and will be biking through Illinois, Western Kentucky and down to Roo. Its quite a lengthy trip but rest assured we're all training and getting ready for it. For all of us, this will be our first time attending Bonnaroo, so were taking all the survival guides we can get, and our backpacks will be full of all the things we need. We are currently planning on either taking a Greyhound Bus back towards chicago after Roo, or if there are any Rv/caravans that are looking for smelly passengers or good friends, we'd love to come with you.
I was wondering if anyone else is doing similar things, or possibly would like to bicycle caravan with us, if you are located in the midwest. We will be camping (of course) along the way and will be visiting Starved Rock and Garden of The Gods So let me know if you are interested!
Also, I was wondering what Roos policy was on bikes? I am under the impression that you CANNOT bring them in, but is there anywhere outside that you can lock them up or something?
any other tips, or info, or similar experiences shared with us would be greatly appreciated. Our main goal is just to meet a bunch of great new people and just have a blast. I hope you all have the same directive!
I was thinking of bringing my bike this year to ride around the grounds and between the campsite and festival grounds. Don't know why I haven't thought of this in my previous bonnaroo trips. Has anyone done this?? Is there a good place to lock up your bike outside the gates?? I've never noticed any bikes parked up there, but haven't really looked either.
There's not some rule against bringing a bike to the fest, is there??
- No Weapons of any kind - No Fireworks - No Illegal Substances - No Vending will be allowed - No bicycles or scooters or personal motorized vehicles will be permitted into the festival grounds (This includes, but is not limited to: golf carts, ATV's motor scooters, and powered skateboards). -NOTE: You will, however, be able to park your bicycle or scooter at any festival entrance via bicycle racks. Please note that the festival is not responsible for your bike/scooter and that you will not be able to move your bike/scooter unless you are leaving the festival grounds - Plastic grocery bags - Styrofoam coolers - Avoid bringing unnecessary items that become pesky waste (sequins, silly string, confetti, balloons, packing peanuts, etc.)
I think that's pretty silly, though. I understand not allowing motorized things like golf carts, but I don't think allowing bikes would cause a problem.
Well, given that I saw a lot of folks who probably shouldn't have been walking -- let alone riding anything with wheels -- I think they're erring on the side of caution here.
