Ok this is my second post folks, so I'm sorry if you all mind me making a new thread instead of replying in an old one, but for the most part all I could find was reiterations of when people arrived and what roads they took.
What I'm curious about is... A) what exactly does BFE mean? I know it's the far parking but what's with the acronym?
and B) how many of these taxis are there? is it extra to lug all your stuff in them? will they be available for return trips to the car, or at least on Monday morning?
This is my first 'roo and I'll be coming with my GF and maybe some friends I made at a Mars Volta show last year. I just bought my tickets for '09, and I can't wait for this!! I appreciate all the awesome advice and humorous anecdotes you guys have here, and will likely be posting a lot in the next few days, until the excitement weens down :-D
pack a wagon or something with wheels and haul your stuff from your car to tent-only, if that's where you want to be (it's where everyone should want to be ). The golf-cart taxis can be kinda hard to track down at times and they tend to be really busy.
Hopefully the grass is cut this year. That stuff was so long last year that even wagons were almost useless.

We were in "bfe" last year and we only walked the entire way once . Why you ask well we were a mile from the rainbow and we did it to see just how long it would take us ,found out way too long for us to do more than once . Taxi's were 5 bucks a pop took taxi's after dark star let out last year . Only problem with taxi's came on Sunday night after widespread panic ,too many people and not enough taxi's . We waited after panic for about an hour for a taxi .

We brought old throw rugs for under our quick shades. They made it much more comfortable at camp, but didn't help during the trek from BFE (where were purgatorized when we arrived at 0400 Thursday AM) all the way to tent-only. I felt like I needed a scythe to chop a trail!
My Roo buddy and I used the taxis to haul our gear from our car to Tent-only last year. It was pretty easy for us to find one Thursday morning (around 9:30am), and also easy to find one Monday morning when we were ready to head out. It was $10 for a one-way trip, but for us, it was completely worth it. There were only two of us, and we were able to fit all of our gear and ourselves in the taxi... but keep in mind we didn't have a whole heck of alot compared to others.
I guess it all depends on the time of day you're looking for a taxi!
