Ok, I did a search and could not find any threads about Okkervil River and I feel that one needs to be made. ;D Actually, I can not believe that more people are not extremely excited about this amazing band being a part of this wonderful lineup.
Last year, at Lollapalooza, I saw Radiohead, Wilco, NIN, Bloc Party, Stephen M., BSS, Devotchka, and many many more acts . . . and Okkervil River was by far my favorite show of the weekend. Yes, Okkervil is one of my all time favorite bands but, so are Radiohead and Wilco. These guys are absolutely phenomenal live. They bring so much passion and energy to their live shows and they are not to be missed. I truly feel that Will Sheff is one of the greatest song writers of this generation and he brings all of his enthusiasm and love of music to the stage with him every night.
Trust me, these guys are not to be missed and I hope they get a well deserved one and a half hour set.
Haven't seen them live yet and I need to get caught up on their last two albums - but Black Sheep Boy is one of my favorite albums of the past five years.

I definitely can appreciate them!
I'm super excited about seeing them and I hope the don't conflict with anyone else. Your post got me even more excited by saying how amazing they are live. Now I'm going to watch videos of them. ;] Karma for this!

The Stage Names is definitely an album you should pick up. It is amazing and the songs are really fun live.

I've got it and The Stand Ins actually, I just need to find the time to give them a good, uninterrupted listen.
I'm glad to hear their live show is solid. Have some karma

After having barely heard of them (one friend was a big fan) I saw them at Sasquatch last year. They were easily one of the best and most fun shows of the entire festival.
Okkervil River are a great great band. If i hadn't seen them already once, they'd definetly be a must see. Every album by them is just amazing.
My favorite tracks by them: War Criminal Rises and Speaks West Falls Black Song of Our So Called Friend Savannah Smiles Unless It Kicks For Real The Latest Toughs The President's Dead

If you add Singer Songwriter on of that list I'd pretty much be the happiest boy alive.
i was really happy to see them on the lineup-Stand Ins and Stage Names are 2 of my top albums of the past few years they definitely need some representation here-have some karma!
I saw them twice within the last year and a half and must say they put on a fantastic show which is the reason why I went back to see them again. They give you what you want to hear and do a great job performing it as well. I will definitely stop by and check them out.

I saw them open for the New Pornographers about a year ago and they were awesome. I'm excited to hear some stuff off of The Stand Ins live (especially On Tour with Zykos)
So using my first post to say "Okkervil River is quacking amazing!"
Nice first post, karma. This band has grown on me alot since the lineup came out and after seeing their coachella performance they are a must see for me.

Yeah, I can't wait to see Okkervil River. I saw them September of 07, right after The Stage Names came out and it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen. They played Okkervil River Song on the side of the stage completely acoustic then erupted into full-band versions of The President's Dead and Westfall... and that was just the encore!
I am a little nervous that now that Jonathan and Brian left the band, their best days are maybe over. Their performance of Pop Lie on Letterman was great, but I'm really going to miss Jonathan's piano work and backing vocals and Brian's amazing pedal steel, mandolin and guitar skills.

Yeah me and some friends drove up to the free concert they played at Arizona State University, there were only around 100 people there and they were fantastic. I definitely plan on being at their set.
"It's hard to say whether seeing Kellz backed by Jim James and his lion's mane hairdo or Billy Idol rocking out next to John Oates and his soul patch was weirder to watch. Let's just say both were beautifully bizarre sights to behold."
