I strongly disagree about the lax security at AllGood.
I went last year. I'm clean cut and don't do illegal things. Was listening to the oldies station in the line to get in and not some crunchy jams. They searched my van (rented white 2006 Chevrolet Express cargo) for 5 minutes. Went through everything. I didn't even have much gear since I was flying solo--ez-up, tarps, cot, cooler, camp chairs, big bag o blankets and clothes.
Then after DarkStar they handed out garbage bags and asked us to pick up all the garbage on the hill. So a bunch of us did. Amazing experience. So at the end when the hill was just about spotless, groups started gathering together to chat a bit and exchange some really good clean vibes that everyone felt after a great DarkStar show and a good community trash pickup. It was late night Saturday for goodness sake! It was time to bond over how damn clean that hill was. 30 security guys come across the field in a big line clearing everyone out. Big scary dudes. Yelling. Angry faces. Arms waving as if to say "Get out!"
Wow, I must say I had the exact opposite experiences regarding these two aspects. We rolled in, they asked me to pop the trunk and as soon as the trunk was opened i heard it closed shut and they let us go in. Maybe it's cause you were so clean cut and weren't playing crunchy jamz
And as far as DSO is concerned... all I know is I was assed the hell out in a lawn chair and when I was awoken I saw security guards laughing at me as they walked by. Maybe this happened earlier than the garbage picking up, which I must give you a +1 for because that place had to have been covered in glowies and other assorted junk

I wouldn't even consider not going on Thursday. The music this year for Thursday is going to be killer! Keller>BoomBox>Lotus for $20? Yes please!
The atmosphere on Thursday night is incredible. Definitely not something to miss. I don't know what the line situation is like on Friday but I'm fairly certain that the majority of people get there on Thursday.
When I bought my tickets I didn't even think about it and just went for the cheaper option, hopefully I can go back into my order and get the early arrival package. I can't imagine why I wouldn't be able to, seems like they'd try to make it as easy as possible for them to make more money. Guess I'll find out when I get home.
All of those, except there is actually a lot of bands that play on the ropeadope last year we had Brazillian girls and The Join.
AND Perpetual Groove! ;D
Thursday night was the shiiiiit last year. Just sitting atop the ropeadope hill as the place was getting dark while all of a sudden the mountaintop just started glowing is one of my favorite memories.
So there are two main stages as well as vendors in the venue, then there is the ropeadope stage which is in the campgrounds???
Edit: While I'm on the subject what exactly is the ropeadope stage used for (music obviously, ex.) sonic stage is used for acoustic/intimate performances)

^^Pretty much. Last year our tent was literally about 50-100 feet behind the ropeadope stage, only separated by a shakedown and a fence.
There's also a few vendors before you get into the main stage area as well selling food.

Ropeadope is pretty similar, only the schedule per day isn't announced until that morning they'll post a sign with the performing artists and groups. They'll have some guitar workshops throughout the afternoon if I remember correctly, I can't recall exactly though. Basically it's just a place where all the magic happens. It's also where all of the Thursday night acts play.
If you don't visit the ropeadope stage atleast once between Fri-Sun then you probably have missed out on something epic, though. Who was it that was there some other year watching someone on there and all of a sudden Claypool just walked out and sat down on the drums? Roofan?
What I can say is about 30 minutes after we got there my entire sense of time was gone.
Haha
I was able to get the early arrival option added to my order, I'm glad I won't be missing out, good looking out! Just got the new Ben Harper CD and I'm rocking out while I cook dinner, Starting to get really excited about Allgood (nothing like Roo but it grows stronger every day!)
I know it really is a priority for me the more I think about it. I still want to get roofan and teine back on board but that is looking less and less likely...
I concur with everything that has been said above. DEFINITELY get there on thursday. The earlier the better.
In 07 we got there at like 11:00 pm Thur and was cmaped way back in Mag Circle. Last year we got in line at like 11 or 12 noon and were GOLDEN!!! GREAT camping spot right by shakedown and across from Ropeadope. Our group was kickin it sweet last year.
Like Jesse, I aint even going and am excited. Allgood has to be the best overall fest of the year!
