So me and my buddy will be coming to roo from CA, were seeing phish in knox the night before. i have read that people have brought their water bottles froze in their coolers, i think this is a great idea. being as we are coming from so far it will melt, i was thinking dry ice in the cooler might freeze water bottles. any ideas?

Frozen water bottles stay frozen for a while. Put some ice in a cooler and the froze bottles should stay froze.
They are sooo handy, last time I was at roo I used them in my sleeping bag and pillow case to fight off the morning heat in my tent, and also as a hammer to put the steaks down on my tent.
I freeze several gallon jugs. I drink a couple each day and and use them as ice in coolers, especiallly one with stuff that shouldn't get wet (ie cheese, meds, etc.) It usually lasts until Sunday, which is about as long as is needed.
As to your actual question yes I think you can freeze 20 0z bottles all day in your dry ice cooler. In fact I bet if you just kept cycling you could do 2 to 3 cases Weds/Thursday just get lots of dry ice as this will melt it much faster. Dry ice will pretty much freeze anything you put in that cooler however, as well as make it fizzy. This is awesome with Oranges and Cherries, less so with bananas which also turn black very quickly.

good question!
Freeze your bottles for a week or so before the fest Buy a couple slabs of dry ice, put them into the bottom of your cooler Throw a half bag or so regular ice on top of Dry Ice Frozen water bottles go next, Cover with ice
Pick up your beer along the way, and keep the cooler closed as much as possible generally... you should proabably bring a second cooler and just snag like 10 waters in the morning and toss em in there... keeping the ice chest closed makes it last longer, and the frozen water bottles will work for a little while chilling your other cooler

5-day coolers are an absolute necessity, all other coolers are garbage nowadays. I had one of each last year and I kept buying ice for the crappy one, now I have two 5-days and no worries. Frozn bottled waters are an absolute must also, they keep your cooler colder longer and nothing beats waking up and having a nice cold bottled water, nothing.

I googled 5 day coolers once, and I got nothing useful. Is that what they're called? So if I walked into Target and asked for one they would know what I was taking about, and not just look at me? haha. Are they just an expensive cooler? =] weeeeeeerd

coleman extreme coolers is one of the brands. It should say it keeps ice cold for 5 days on the label.
This is the smaller one of mine:
Rubbermaid 5-Day 50-Quart Wheeled Cooler:
Great for extended trips and camping, this wheeled cooler keeps contents cold for up to five days at 90°F. It holds fifty-seven 12-ounce cans with 20 pounds of ice. Two dual-material wheels and the retractable luggage-style handle make it easy to move across a variety of surfaces.
mooseman9, I'm from Knoxville, where you will be enjoying Phish the night before. I know it's not California, but, we have these things here called stores that purvey such goods as bottled water. I would just buy some when you get into town and then freeze it, which should solve your logistical issues. Hit me up when you get into town. Some friends will be at my house "preparing" for the show. We'd love to have some West Coasters to knock o...er....kick it with. Some karma 4 u!
Take 2 coolers with you. About 15-20 min outside of Manchester, fill up 1 cooler w/ all your beer, water, and ice (like a normal cooler...3 day if possible). In the other cooler (5 day cooler would be great), fill it up with ONLY bags of ice. Keep that cooler out of sun the whole trip. I actually leave mine in my car with a tarp covering it. ONLY open that cooler to get a bag of ice out when you need to replace ice in the main cooler (a bag or 2 at a time). Your main cooler's ice/water will stay ice cold the whole trip, hence keeping all your beer, water, etc. cold. I have lasted through Sunday with ice cold water every year.

well my g/f works at a water company that bottles water.....My brother works at a gas place that sells dry ice..So what we did was she brought home a crap load of 12oz and 16oz bottles. We loosened the caps and squeezed the small amount of air out of them so they didn't bust and stuck those in the freezer a week prior to the trip to assure that all the water was frozen.....The day before we left we drove to my brothers work and purchased 4lbs of dry ice (get the block dry ice and not the pellets..the pellets will thaw quicker so my brother told me)... We then put all the dry ice in the bottom of 2 coolers and covered it with a towel then we layed the water bottles evenly layered on top and left room for all other food we were to take this keeps the food from freezing,, pop, hamburgers, etc . The dry ice lasted up till Saturday night .To give you an idea how it was on Saturday.before we left home Sara had bout pop cycles and forgot to put them in the cooler thursday so they were hot in the back of the jeep... she stuck them in down close to the dry ice on friday morning they were frozen by the time we came back to camp. We were probable the only ones in camping area eating pop cycles on Saturday..Now after the dry ice was gone the water bottles were still frozen solid so the coolers were still cold.. the best thing i seen about the way we done this is my hamburger meat didn't get soggy from melting ice my condiments, pop, beer and lettuce ect was as fresh as my Frigidaire back home..The bottles contained the water so there was no mess and even when they started melting it was the top first which gave us good cold water to drink and frozen bottles underneath to keep every thing else cold...If we had bout 2 more lbs of dry ice we would of still had it by the time we came home sunday evening so buy plenty of dry ice and freeze plenty water and you should be ok.. i know this was kinda long but may be this will help

Dry ice is the way to go, it lasted until Sunday for me and my friend. We just put some ice and a couple frozen water bottles inside before we left, we didn't have to buy a single bag of ice.
