Hey all! This will be my first roo experience. I'm trying to get a sense for the jam sessions that go on at Roo in the campgrounds. I've done High Sierra a few years and some of my best memories were from jamming with fellow campers in the campgrounds.
What is the campjam scene like at roo? I'm assuming there's drum circles that pop up. Do alot of people bring their instruments?
I always bring my cheap guitar. Two years ago several people said they would bring their's to the Inforoo brunch, but I was the only one that did. Imprompto jam sessions at your camp can be hit or miss. I had some good ones in 2004.
I took my guitar in '06 and maybe played all of about 20 minutes collectively over the weekend.. there's just waaay too much going on at Roo. I've had better experiences at smaller festivals with having a guitar and finding people to jam with.
Smilefest was I think the best jam session I've had at a festival..three guitars, a stand up bass, a guy on a djembe, a guy on some tablas, a guy on mandolin and a girl with a fiddle. My god, that was fun.
LOL! Yeah...I think I took my cheap guitar in 2007...didn't bother last year....played Dan's for about 10 mins at camp last year I think....not as much down time as you think but it is nice for the 10-15 mins when you actually DO want it there...but not worth the hassle of hauling it around usually....
I brought my Martin D28 last year and had some good jams with some neighbors.......Even played a few licks while the bagpipe player played at james bond camp. Definately gonna bring my KORG tho this year as well. I'm down to jam anytime especially thursday afternoon.

Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.
I can see what you mean about not having very much time, there's going to be alot to do. Maybe i'll just bring one of these for adventures through the campgrounds, but never during the music of course

i'm gonna look for a tambourine to bring so i can join in random sessions. i havent been involved in one yet, but have sat for hours and watched. and it is awesome.
last year, we had one guy with his camp guitar, another with a set of bongos and then we ended up camped next to a set of kids who had their own guitars and drums. Best way to spend a morning before heading into Centeroo.
we'll have spiratic jam sessions throughout the weekend, I always bring my guitar and this year I have a few buddies that will be along for the ride with theirs, and they are the epitome of impromptu jammin'.. Anyways we'll be in RV camping so if you hear some acoustics follow the sound, all's welcome and we love meetin' new folks

we actually got into roo wednesday night and the put us in the southeastern most part off in the wood, seemed to be a ton of locals, but there were some groovy jams going on in camp that night.
We had brought our 3 hand drums and ended up attracting a huge crowd Sunday night who jammed and sang Beatles songs until dawn Monday. One of my best roo memories.
