How many of us going this year have phones with internet access (G3 or EDGE)? I'm willing to do the research and figure out a system so we can all update each other on wait times and campgrounds on Wednesday and Thursday.
Or better yet I KNOW I'll be able to set something up where whoever wants to can text Arrival time, wait time, Campground their in, and more importantly if BFE is full or not to an e-mail address and have it send an update every 30 minutes or so.
Would anyone be willing to take a minute while they are in line or after they set up to send a text with that info?
We used twitter in this way last year but it was a mess since their were so many messages coming in it was hard to keep up. I think an organized system would be very cool and I would participate if I were going GA.

Even if you aren't in GA, I hope people would still text the campgrounds that are full so we could keep track. Also when we all get back from Roo, we'd have a detailed plan of how they do load in.
Yah I'm not a fan of twitter. I'm more inclined to either create some sort of text to message board system so I could check it and compile a few mass SMS messages that would go out to anyone who opted in over Wednesday night through Thursday night.
I know at the very least I'll do an RSS feed that everyone will be able to post to and watch.
Not the most technology savvy here (working w/ my daughter's 2nd gen hand me down), but plan on being among the first to stake claim of CIR space in tent-only. However, my gf has a fancy-schmancy Iphoney phone where we could do me walking around calling her w/ updates to traffic flow and her hitting the RSS feed thing from CIR.
Why doesn't that surprise me...has a familiar ringtone.
Yeah I have the Blackberry Storm and stay online. It would be nice to have some sort of mobile site that is compressed so its not as hard to move around.

Well I do audio for a Mobile SMS Marketing company, so tomorrow I'll have a chat with our sales lady and she should be able hook me with all the info I'll need.
If everyone doesn't mind a small ad at the bottom of text's, I believe I can get the hook up on all of this for free.

Just got off the phone with our account manager at work, and Inforoo Mobile WILL happen for FREE, pending a short discussion with the admin. More details COMING SOON!
Dude, I seriously can't concentrate on anything but bonnaroo right now. . .It's to the point where I'm poking myself in the eye with foreign objects. . . I think I just need to be sedated until Tuesday. . . . Dystopian Dream
Do walkie talkies work at the roo? I have never been able to use my cell phone, due to the large amount of people on AT&T?
Last year was the first year that I could use it SOMETIMES. But I'll have to resend a text like 10 times before it goes though. I could usually make phone calls in the mornings, but other than that, it was ify. In 2005, my phone literally died (forever) when I was trying to use it on the way in. I think it was just overwhelmed and couldn't handle it. ???

I'm not sure what cell provider everyone has, but my T-Mobile worked flawlessly all Roo '07 and '08.
The way it'll work is by next week I'll have a phone number set up. People who want to receive the updates will call that number and opt-in. And pretty much it's as simple as that. Starting the Thursday of Roo sometime, everyone who opted in will start to receive a text every hour updating them on wait times and camping info.
The only thing I need is a small group of people who will be on the roads at different times, and different exits telling me how long the wait is and what camps are full.
sweet man...sounds like a good plan...i'd be more than willing to help with the info...i'll be heading down from jersey and probably get in line around 1ish on Thursday..

Yah, I just need to get the exits covered at different times. I know of the two exits I've used (Exit 111 and exit 114) but isn't there also another one (exit 127)?
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
You know what, now I sit here I am not 100% which exit number I got off of the last couple yrs. The one with the winery and the road that runs right beside the interstate and by a bunch of house to the back side of Roo.

Cool. I'm almost positive that's 114. With in the week I'm going to cook up a list of "insiders" that are willing to keep me informed for the text blasts.

Bad news. Something in a contract that my office has signed prevents us from sending texts out for any other reason that my company stated. (ie: not traffic updates) I'm not sure if this is the real reason because my boss was not very happy I was going to do this in the first place.
His question was, how is this making me money. I said it's not, but it's also not costing you anything. He said, so you're doing this to be a nice guy? I replied yes, and then he stared at me confused for a minute and then ended the conversation.
I'll try to find another company who can help, however I think it will turn into something you pay for, which defeats my whole purpose to begin with.
ahh. Big Business now a days is always worried about that dollar. I wouldn't do anything that would get you in in trouble cause there is always something else out there but good try. Maybe something else will present itself.

Inforoo could do exactly that if the folks who run this place would migrate away from a hosted service and onto a "real" forum package.
The easiest way to do this will be for people to twitter w/ @inforoo and let @inforoo publish regular updates. Someone would have to be home and running the twitter account, obviously, but it helps control the signal-to-noise ratio.
