I'm trying to decide whether to buy a hammock with a frame or if there's some way to hang the backpacking hammock I have now from an EZ-up or something.
Here's the hammock I've brought since '05 but with a cloth hammock instead of a rope one. It's a 3-piece frame which snaps together, each piece is about 6 ft long so you need a truck to haul it. Got it free off freecycle.
Here's a pic of my '07 set-up
I just got a letter last week that I've won a Eureka folding hammock in a contest. Haven't recieved it yet but I'll likely bring it this year.
I really think you need a hammock frame. EZ-up legs won't hold the weight. I usually bring some fence posts and a driver and I have driven some posts for people to hang hammocks. But the results are only barely adequate and the hammock usually sags.

^^^ I've been thinking about something along the lines of that Eurkea hammock.
I don't know what sort of load my EZ-up frame will handle, but I'm sure that you're right. I tired to find some specs on that before I posted this thread, but came up with nothing and just assume that I'm too fat for it to work.
Now I just have to watch for a sale on the folding hammock that I want. That frame you posted is too massive for my wife to put up with it in our campsite.

This is what I used last year, it was SOOO comfortable, one of my neighbors even asked if he could lie in it with his girlfriend. It is a little pricey but completely worth it. You have to use your own pillow though, because the one that it comes with is really crappy.

Hey Creep, I thought about getting that one, how was it? Comfortable? Sturdy?
Yea its not to bad really, they even toss in a little inflatable pillow. I bought mine at a TJ Maxx for 40 bucks so it was really worth it. It's sturdy too

This is "portable" in that the frame does fold, but it takes up a good amount of space in the car and is a little heavy to haul to tent only. That said, it's totally worth the hassle and we bring it every year.

Tok one to roo 04 and got my ass whipped by the hammock or maybe the beer and adult fun time items in combination with the hammock that whopped me up but I haven't had the courage to take one since .
