I would highly recommend one of these little buggers. Technically it is a "fanny pack" but it comes with a shoulder strap for the self-conscious haha. It has plenty of pockets including a nice one inside the main compartment, which would be ideal for personal valuables
I found mine on Craigslist for $20 bucks, and would recommend checking that or Ebay before buying a new one, because they can get a bit pricey when you get into the larger models. ;D
*edit* oh yea, i forgot to tell you haha, it's called a Mountainsmith lumbar pack and they can be found at almost any mountaineering store on the web, ie REI, Moosejaw etc.
as weird as fanny packs are this is what i'm going with. I don't like anything against my back in the heat. The one I got has a zippered pouch inside for $, credit card, ID, a big pouch for munchies, a water bottle holder and a carabiner clip so i dont lose my keys!
