I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a small bag to pack a few things in for the day. I am not looking for a huge backpack, but rather something easy to carry, that can hold a bottle of water and a few other items. Also I would like it to have a hidden pocket for protecting my personal items from possible theft.

I use a tiny camel pack, aside from water I have a poncho, pen and pad, extra lighter, pouch of tobacco. I think thats it, this actually reminds me tho I have to get a new one I chewed through my old one at starscape and now it just leaks water all over my chest.
I would highly recommend one of these little buggers. Technically it is a "fanny pack" but it comes with a shoulder strap for the self-conscious haha. It has plenty of pockets including a nice one inside the main compartment, which would be ideal for personal valuables
I found mine on Craigslist for $20 bucks, and would recommend checking that or Ebay before buying a new one, because they can get a bit pricey when you get into the larger models. ;D
*edit* oh yea, i forgot to tell you haha, it's called a Mountainsmith lumbar pack and they can be found at almost any mountaineering store on the web, ie REI, Moosejaw etc.
I bought a hydration pack from Target last year and while the mouthpiece broke on the first day, I found that the size and number of pockets was perfect and I had brought a Nalgene bottle anyway so just threw that in. But you could always buy a proper insert.

Lat year I brought a big ass Oakley backpack, that landed me the sole carrier of everyone else's shit as well as carrying around a heavy ass backpack that made me hot all day. This year I've been searching ebay for a styling fanny pack.
I think what your looking for is a gym sack. Its not to big or bulky and you can wear it like a backpack. Its what I used last year and will be using again this year and there not that expensive from what I remember. Just type gym sack into google and you should be able to find one.

Just do what my guy friends did.....make the girl in your group carry all your stuff. ;D That's the downside of carrying a bag of any sort....by the second day I was like "why are there CLOTHES in my purse?!"
I have a Camelbak M.U.L.E , I originally purchased it for mountain biking, I have also used it at Roo for two years and love it. It is convenient to carry your water and stuff in one bag.

Just say no! I have a friend who insists on carrying those useless wristlets when we go out, then asking me to carry all the things (translation: everything) that doesn't fit.
I like that fanny pack a couple of posts back. I can't believe I just typed "like" and "fanny pack" in the same sentence. Oy.
I used a gym sack the first year and the size was perfect. I also loved how lightweight it was and that it didn't have huge straps.
However, I did not like having everything in one section. I was forever digging around in my bag looking for stuff. So if you do this, I recommend pouches or baggies or something to hold all your small crap like cash, ID, lip balm, etc.
I usually don't carry much into Centeroo but if I'm going for the day I'll take an insulated lunch bag I got at Office Max on sale for a couple bucks. It's waterproof so if I get in the fountain I'm okay and it has a shoulder strap, water bottle pocket, cell phone pocket and slant zipper pocket.
Here's a pic of a similar bag. Look around. I've seen these at Big Lot's , Target, everywhere and they can be found fairly cheap.
some people are able to get in with full Camelbaks (water or other beverages), others find ice to be perfect. In my group, some tried and got through, others just filled up once inside.
The great thing about the tube is that you don't get as much sulphur smell from the well water
You can "officially" only bring empty camelbaks into Centeroo. But the enforcement varies wildly. If you bring a full one and don't want to empty it, turn around and get in another line. eventually someone will let it slide.
