Langerado keeps blaming their ticket sales on the economy, but had they stayed at Big Cypress and had a better lineup, they probably wouldn't have had to cancel; I know I would've been there. I'm sure the recession was a factor, though.
We could be in the best economy ever and Rado still would have been in trouble. When your festival doesnt have any headliners your going to struggle to sell tickets. Nobody was going to shell out hundreds of dollars a night for a hotel plus price of the tickets & travel for DCFC & Snoop Dogg.
I agree that some of the smaller fests are going to be hurt because of the economy but I think all of the major festivals should be fine as long as they remember to book some headliners.
Agree that AC/Superfly were VERY smart this year in top=loading the initial lineup. However, it doesn't change the facts that there are many people who are facing tough decisions about festivals this summer. Last year we had no trouble making VIP, but with bills piling up, we decided GA ten-only, but just last week got our hands around kids tuition for next school year (up 20%), and we might sell our Roo tickets, and do Hoka/All Good instead.
Count me among the many citizens boiling mad at the "rocket scientists" in DC/NYC that got us into this mess...classic Newsweek cover...America Welcome to Socialism.
roo wont sell out this early no matter who is playing, now that its on the last tier people figure they can wait to buy their tickets cause they dont have to worry about it going up anymore and they already got shut out of cheap tickets. and yeah Rado would of been a bust no matter what, I think the small festivals will do fine this summer tho I know a ton of people going to allgood and camp bisco and look at camp bisco last year, the economy wasnt so great, gas was expensive and they still sold the more tickets than they ever had before.
