I got me some tickets to see the dead live. I've never heard any of their live shows with warren and all. I've only ever listened to the Dead with Jerry. I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me.
Do they do Jerry's songs? Does Bobby or Phil just sing for them? Does Warren sing any songs, or just play? Does Warren always play Jerry's lead-ish spot or do him and Bobby switch off? What year range would they be most comparable to? Does the keyboardist(Chimenti I believe?) resemble any previous key seats like Pigpen, Keith or Brent?
Saw one show of the Dead with Warren in'04. I thought is was fantastic. They do play plenty of Jerry songs. Warren, Bobby, and Phil all sing. Though I remember Warren and Bobby doing most of the singing. I'd say warren pretty much takes over the lead guitar role and does a great job. (disclaimer: I'm a big warren haynes fan)
I haven't really listened to any of it since then, though. I never got recordings of any of that tour for some reason. So, I'm not gonna try to compare too much to Grateful Dead eras since all I have are the memories of the '04 show.
But I do remember it being very very good (I liked it better than The Other Ones w/Jimmy Herring) though it is different (obviously) than real Grateful Dead.

The most important thing to remember is that Warren isn't trying to replace Jerry. He brings his own style into the music. I can't really compare it to a particular era in the Grateful Dead, but I will say that it rocks from what I've heard on recordings.

To Terrapin: Hartford, CT
"Celebrate the Dead's final exclamation point on the legendary Spring '77 tour, all captured here from start to finish, in pristine HDCD audio. TO TERRAPIN catches the guys at the top of their game unleashing a slew of new tunes that would "officially" debut two months later as part of TERRAPIN STATION.
This 3-disc set will be released on April 7th, but you can preorder it now."
This is considered to be up there with the Cornell show as the best on the Spring 77 tour, which is the best tour they ever did. This could be the best official release they've ever done. And it comes out on my birthday
