So, I am thinking about buying a nice high def camcorder for roo this year so i can bring home some memories. are they allowed in centeroo? or is that part of the no professional cameras allowed clause...let me know before i spend some bones on this camera!
the one im looking at on ebay is a Canon HV20 HDV digital camcorder if you all want to look it up to see if is allowed!

Crazy, I have been looking around for a while to find a good one to take with me to Roo and just for everything else.. Id like a nice one but not one to break me.
I brought mine in 07 and didn't have any trouble bringing it in. You just gotta be wary of carrying around something that expensive that could easily be ruined in so many ways. Make sure you're prepared to keep that sucker dry in case it rains.

I got denied last year when I tried to bring in my sony handycam. They pretty much said if I didn't take it back to camp it would be confiscated. So I ended up missing half of The Raconteurs set having to run it back to camp.
I've never had a problem taking a camcorder in over the last few Roos but enforcement varies. If denied just say you're going back to camp and get in another line.

We've never had a problem bringing one in, but we do bury it at the bottom of our backpack going into Centeroo.
My husband is the videographer and has taken some awesome footage over the years with a Sony DCR-DVD92. In 2007 (the year of the dust), it started acting up and some of the discs were corrupt. They were recovered though with great effort. (Thank goodness! Would have really missed that late night Gov't Mule set and Widespread Panic was great.)
Last year, we tried to buy exactly the same camera, but they don't make it anymore. We got the new version (DCR-DVD810) of it instead, recorded more than ever, and came home with HORRIBLE results. Sony has repositioned the microphone to the top of the camera instead of the front. I don't know if that is the problem, but the sound came out terrible. The bass is way overpowering. There is no in-camera adjustment to fix it. It can't handle the Roo.
I would try to do some research if you are interested in sound quality. If anyone knows of a good camcorder for live music, please share. We can't seem to find one.
I wish they would just let video people set up like tapers do.

^ Sony is terrible when it comes to audio on consumer and prosumer level camcorders. that being said, other companies aren't that much better on the low end of camcorders. If you are very concerned with audio you might have better luck finding the audio recording from someone else and dubbing it in.
The cannon hv20 will get you some great quality video, but i can not comment on the audio quality because i never use the built-in mic.
I got tired of the security flashing their lights into my camera and yelling at me, so this last year I just used my Cannon Camera for the vids, and it did a decent job...not DVD quality, but it gave me some memories.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
I want a good enough video camera to record everything about Roo but I want to record bits and pieces of the shows I attend, I def wont record the whole thing but just enough to remember each by.
