Wow, I got smote for that? I thought it was pretty obvious that wasn't targeted at all Christians, far from it, just those specific ones. That's what Re: means. While this sort can be found everywhere, we have a lot of them down here. I've been raised around them. Believe me, this group is almost certainly one that also believes that anyone who doesn't belong to their particular church is going to hell, anyway, hence the "I still wouldn't be just like you."
Or was I smote because I'm not Christian? I'm just curious.
I also met the nice, water-giving group in '07. I thought they had a much more effective and Christian method of getting their message across than the others, and they have much respect from me for it.

Bonnaroo is my church.
I will mention that in 2007 on one of my first ventures through the campgrounds walking around trying to find ice, i came across the church group with free snacks and coffee in the morning. They mentioned what they were doing and offered free refreshments to concert attendees. I like these people lots, very non-invasive but supportive. For a while i almost forgot about that memory in the haziness of bonnaroo memories, but once i though about it I remembered how meaningful it was when it happened. You never know what you will come across walking around.
I dont know who these people are, i just found the pictures
there are a bunch of videos of these guys walking into the festival and almost getting in fights with security, and there's one with some guy chewing them out.
OMG! I have a picture of myself with these guys and got into a "discussion" with them about their views. Absolute hypocritical, crazy bullshit!

I'm a pastor and will be attending my 3rd Bonnaroo this summer.
What baffles me about the protestors:
Do they really think the best way to witness to non-believers is by immediately telling them they're going to hell? Jesus hung out with prostitutes, drunks, and tax collectors. Do you think he witnessed to these people the same way the protestors are? No way.
Jesus loves you no matter what music you listen to.
and weren't there some christians handing out water or food in the mornings or something like that? i don't think i took any from them, but they seemed cool.
I met these people on Thursday as I was spinning out of control. My sober buddy thought it was a good time for polite conversation. So, I'm talking abut my drive down with this nice old christian man, and I'm trying with all my power not to laugh hysterically in his face. Good times.

These guys made me LOL. I think I even got a copy of some kind of 'newsletter' or something that talked about how we were all going to hell?

Dont listen to those maniacs.
Amen. Agreed. I wish more people would get that through their heads.
I imagine if anybody wanted to hold a church service @ Bonnaroo, a few people might be down.

I would 100% go to a church at Bonnaroo. I go to a church that is real thrilling and I always think it would be cool for something like that at Bonnaroo. I tried the Yoga twice in 2007. Church would actually be refreshing and probably have air conditioning.
Actually, danbird was quoting "Arrested Development". deetank got it, and filled in the next line.
I'm always very nervous when the words "faith", "church", "Jesus" and "Christianity" start being used around here... and I want to thank everyone for being very respectful. At lest insofar as people deserve it... I agree with the sentiment that these aggressive folks are not living by Christ.
And for the record, I'd be happy to help lead a pan-faith service at some point, if there really was interest.

I completely understand and respect your concerns, and I would never make a blanket statement about such a varied group of people - especially as most of my best friends were raised Christian. Personally, I'm kind of all over the place, being the son of a Christian dad and a Jewish mother. I went to Hebrew school on Saturdays, and during the week I attended a Protestant school where we had Religious Ed. classes, as well as chapel services once a fortnight. If I had to define my views, I'd say atheist/agnosto-curious.
I say to each his own. I'm actually very happy for all those who have found God and made positive changes in their lives. What I don't like is when certain extremists try to tell me that their way is the only way, and that I am going to go to hell if I don't embrace their ethos immediately. Live and let live, you know? I'm not hurting anyone, I'm not trying to convince anyone that God doesn't exist. Let me live in peace, and if I end up suffering in eternal damnation for being a heathen, well, that's my loss then. I believe heaven and hell are both right here on earth, that there is no afterlife and we have to seize what's been given to us.
Truth be told, I can't say that God doesn't exist with any absolute certainty, and I don't believe anyone say He does exist with absolute certainty either. What's really important is that I am respectful of others, I honor my family and friends, and despite my views, I still have a strong sense of morality.

Pan-faith? Are you Pagan? I would be really interested if some Pagan folks (or any open minded observers) would like to get together for a little blessing rit. I post this with reservations as I got slammed 3 yrs ago for suggesting something similar.

My re: for the sign holders:
"Well my friend i may be goin to hell with all these people and its gonna be quite a party on the way, but why do you care?...your not, because your so good, humble, kind and righteous . The way i see it that leave more room for you in the almighty kingdom of heaven... by the way do you know where i can score some corn."
Or was I smote because I'm not Christian? I'm just curious.
It's possible; I think I just got smitten for identifying myself as a Christian.
*sigh* Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't, huh? I think part of Bonnaroo is about accepting others who are also accepting but different from yourself. Those who aren't accepting at all, like the sign holders...they don't anger me so much as they worry me for themselves. They always seem just so full of misdirected anger and rage, even the smiley ones, and it's sad to me.
It's not cool to smite people just because of their religion or lack thereof. Please, everyone, be real and have a lovely day.
