Now about Seakitten's gift issues ... before we hijack this thread.... Just go old school and make her a mixed tape or catch a fish with that badass rod and cook it for her
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.
Also, her friends would blow the surprise- girls can't keep secrets.
Uhhh - I know girls that can keep secrets alot better then guys
I agree. I could have worded that a little better. I didn't mean all girls. But if you ask 5 or 6 of her friends a few days beforehand, chances are something could slip.

Geeze, she's allergic to fish. Do you want her to die? This is why you need a couple dates before the Make Her Dinner date

I would (have) totally make a girl dinner. Dinner and a movie at home can be much more relaxing, (not to mention inexpensive). Let her pic the movie- The chick flick will be alot more tolerable from the comfort of your couch and your finest corn and corn accessories.
She complains that most movies "don't have enough sh*t blowing up."
Also corn doesn't fit into the picture really for either of us. She does love her fine wine however.
And yeah the jar idea is touchy since I she hasn't live in NY that ong and I don't really know most of her close friends at all. It gives me other ideas though.
Oh yeah and here's the reel and plugs. I just posted them o my fishing board.
Gup, that reel is beautiful. Are you going to use it or is mainly for show? Also I have been thinking ... you should not over look the simplest of things to say thank you -look her in the eyes and say "You really blew me away with that reel and all.I just want you to know how much it meant to me". Ok, it sounds kind of corny but meaningful words are so powerful.

I like this. I'm guessing that if she went to that much trouble, you're already doing things right, you know? So just keep appreciating her the way you are.
Also, don't use up all of your good ideas on random gifts. While I do love the random gift, I actually like it better when I know that a guy has saved this idea all year just so I get a fab Christmas present. Or gets me something random that I mentioned 4 months earlier. To me, that shows he's thinking about me more than spending tons of cash on an average Tuesday because if he doesn't do it RIGHT NOW he'll forget.
This is not to say that I don't love spontaneity, but if you can only afford a few things, save them for when they'll really count. Day-to-day just be yourself and give her your full attention and make her a priority in your life and that really is the best gift of all.

1. I use everything. That thing is designed to be dunked under salt water and still keep ticking. Most other reels need to be completely disassembled, greased and put back together after just one submersion. I surf fish which requires marching through treacherous salt water using your rod as a walking stick for safety to get to fishing spots. I need that reel. Most anglers would ask if I were using the plugs (which I am). I could fetch a god penny for them from tackle collectors.
2. I have given her the most heartfelt thank you not just for the gifts but for putting so much thought into them.
3. I've been referred to by three different names in this thread in one day.
I like the planting bulbs thing too. Send her on a scavanger hunt. Make her go to all the places that are special to her or the both of you guys. And make the last spot be to your house with you waiting for her with her favorite music playing and a tent in your living room. You can 'camp out' in your living room and watch movies and cuddle in the tent.
So Gup, have you done anything nice to repay your lady yet?I saw something pretty neat - a computer font that can be made up of your own handwritting. My Mom has beautiful handwritting and I want her to do one.Anyway, it is personal and pretty cool.

Get her something "rare" and "different," which is not necessarily expensive. Does she read much? Get her a neat book on one of the topics you mentioned (jazz, science, etc.). Or just look on Ebay and type in her favorite things. You'd be surprised at all the different things you'll be able to find. ...things that are a little off the wall but would mean a lot to someone who had interest in them. It's sweet that you're even wanting and thinking about something like that for her. My boyfriend could take some pointers from you.

I agree that you should take a day and make it her day. Spend all your time with her, and even a romantic evening would be nice. I don't really know what she likes and if she's a sexy time kinda gal, but girls love to have a man who thinks she's sexy, and to know that you want her and no one else is the best gift ever. If she's not into the physical thing... what is she interested in? Go on ebay, find something cool, and bid on it for her... it gets pretty cheap and all it takes is a money order. Thats all I can think to say...
