The economy, as we all know, is getting worse by the minute. So my question is what are you doing this year (if you are) to save money so you can go to Roo? This includes spending $ at Roo.
I'll start: I'm gonna try and volunteer for Roo and only drink the farm water (last year I bought a ton of water bottles but ended up drinking the farm water and enjoyed it). I'm also am only bringing bare essentials.

I've always thought that the amount of water that people bring is a bit ridiculous. A 6 pack per person will do you just fine, and just use a new bottle each day. Of course that's if you can stomach the sulfur water, which has never been a problem for me.
Anyways, not really doing much to save money this year, BUT with gas prices lower and all of my camping supplies up to date, Bonnaroo will be half as expensive this year as it was in 08. If I had to buy a tent, sleeping bag, chair, etc etc I'd be thinking twice about it, but as it stands now, roo is a bargain with all that you get for the total cost of travel expenses, ticket price, and spending cash.
1. No beer and cutting back on the corn (no beer seems to make cutting back easy BTW). 2. Driving the gas-sipping clunker subaroo rather than the gas-gulping super-stylie Jeep. 3. Eating in.
In terms of while I'm there? 1. Well, no beer now makes for less desire/tolerance then. 2. Probably not going solo to reduce fuel costs (I'll be Jeepin' that distance. The Ruby won't make it) 3. Eat at camp not in Centeroo

I always say i'm gonna save money at any festival i've been to and bring a good amount of food. What tends to happen for me is:
A. I end up being too lazy to make anything B. A $4 slice of pizza sounds alot easier than breakfast tacos. C. It takes too long to walk back to camp for lunch.
I always end up taking food home with me and tossing it when i get home. It ends up cheaper for me if I bring fruit for b-fast and then small snacks for grazing throughout the day. One or two meals in Centeroo a day would be roughly the same amount of money as buying groceries for four days at Bonnaroo

Good point, I think i stick with lots of oranges and cliff bars...i dont see myself wanting to cook in that heat
I'm going to try to cut out the soda I drink every day. That's probably about $60 a month. I'm not eating out as much, and when I do, I'm not getting my favs, but what's less expensive. I'm also going to try to find some sort of retail job to work April through Roo time. I'm going to minimize any clothes-buying for the summer, as well, which will be a challenge. Retail therapy is a stress management tool that runs in the family.
I learned early on that bringing a lot of food did me no good because I spend all my time in Centeroo so that helps. I always bring a case or two of water (it's only about $5 a case) and then refilling all day. Other than that, this is my only vacation each year so I don't sweat it too much.
Oh, going with a few folks this year so the carpooling should save me on gas money. (Went solo last year and even at 49 miles to the gallon I still went through a couple of tanks each way.)

I will be selling organic veggies at the local farmer's market as a 2nd job and I also have been putting away all change and loose 1$ bills in a giant tub.
my manager always jokes that I am single handedly saving the economy with the amount of money I spend in a week. Luckily Im not usually too hard up for cash. I work for commission and tips so as long as Im willing to work my ass off I can bring home a nice amount. Plus my tax return is going to be nice. Hopefully I can make it last til June!
A big help for me that I highly recommend is applying for a credit card with gas rewards. Last year I got a Chase Perfect Rewards card and got 6% off gas for my first 3 months (got it the week before Roo and it saved me $12 in gas) , just make sure you pay it off in full or you save no money. And I think Shell's card gives you 10% off for the first 3 months now, thats a great deal too! Just make sure you wait so the 3 month period encompasses your Roo trip.
i save money by working offshore on the enemy (an oil rig)... where i *gasp* cannot spend money on or consume alcohol... where my food is free... where i'm making bank...
but the 1 and a half weeks i'm home a month, i spend like crazy....
but this year i've decided the best way to save money is to to play the stock markets... i figured with the dow jones going under a 100 points or more a day, why shouldn't i invest in stocks?
I'm still a senior in high school (graduating four days before 'Roo!) so I only have a part-time job. It's been rough trying to put money aside for Bonnaroo as well as college next year with only a part time job. Luckily, my parents got me my Bonnaroo ticket as an early birthday/graduation present. I couldn't have asked for a better gift.
I have a jar of coins in my room that I am putting all my spare change/$1 bills in at the end of every day and I'm not going to touch it until Bonnaroo.
Also, I have found that my "Keep the Change" program with Bank of America has surprisingly helped quite a bit. Everytime I use my card it rounds up the purchase to the nearest dollar and puts the difference into my savings account. It should add up to a decent amount of money by 'Roo time.

My company downsized but I kept my job and they totally dumped hours on me anywhere from 12-22 hours overtime a week. One whole check is being set aside for the Roo (about 800 dollars)

I really don't spend that much at Roo anyway, so not much. I will continue to bring all my food and beverages for Roo. I don't want to spend 9 bucks for pizza in Centeroo and I don't buy 5dollar beers. For me its worth it to eat and drink in camp. Centeroo is a racket and the prices get more and more expensive each year. I won't let myself fall into the convenience of it all.

After having no job nor prospects for a few months, I started work yesterday and will be going for orientation at my second job Wednesday. I gotta pay my dad back for my ticket first thing, then put away my Roo money. After that it's less corn, and work my ass off. I've never even had a full time job, now I'm working a full time and a part time; let's hope I make it!
For me, its been saving all my extra change and dollars and putting into a bigass jar. And working my ass off at two part time jobs. I guess I'm lucky to have those jobs though...

Doing the kind of work you don't put on your tax return. Saving all my paycheck money and living off the money I make from tips. Answering requests for erotic services on craigslist (not really. thought about it, but no) Charging people gas money for rides in my car (to save gas money)....starting today. I've been really lax on that over the last couple months
This is a call of arms to live and love and sleep together.
